Coming to Question Her “Sir, Ms. Davenport had a walk with Ms. Thomas in the yard this morning. She said it was windy outside and asked me to prepare a bowl of ginger soup. When I came back to the yard, Ms. Thomas was gone.”
“Fool! You’re worthless!” Paul bellowed and sullenly asked, “Where is Daryl?” “Also gone.” Dianna’s voice trailed off. He hung up the phone and called Daryl. He waited for a long time, but no one was answering the phone. He tried several more times, but the result was the same.
Archie’s message appeared on his phone. “Sir, I found the footage in the surveillance equipment about to be scrapped.” There was a wasted lawn in the corner of the back wall. No one had attended to it, and the surveillance equipment was out of repair.
It would be scrapped at the end of the year but happened to capture everything. The video was blurry, and only a corner of the wall was within its range.
Two women appeared on the screen. Although their faces were not captured. He could identify them as Daryl and Paula.
They stopped in their tracks and talked. Two unfamiliar faces then appeared outside. They helped Paula and Daryl to climb over the wall. He suddenly paused the video, had a screenshot, and zoomed in. Part of a man’s face appeared in an inconspicuous corner.
This man looked familiar to the eye. He thought of Daryl’s and Paula’s friends till a name crossed his mind. Zane! It was Zane who was always around Lucia. Archie was instructed to check Lucia’s recent activities.
Then he learned that she had been to his house a couple of days ago but met Daryl halfway. “Daryl! How dare you play games with me!”
He slammed his phone to the passenger side and clutched the steering wheel, his eyes filled with hatred.
The grate of the tires rubbing the road was ear-piercing. The silver car made a sharp turn and sped toward the Adams’ house. Turner hurried into the living room and reported, “Madam, Mr. Thomas is waiting for you at the door. He doesn’t look quite happy.”
Lucia had anticipated his arrival. As August said, the security of the Thomas family was good. Sooner or later, he would find a trace and come to her. “I see. Let him wait there.” Lucia got up, but August suddenly grabbed her arm. “I’m going with you.”
She lightly shook her head. “Just wait here for the sake of Paula’s safety. Your presence will only intensify the conflict. He might take Paula away by force.” August fell silent, slowly loosened his grip, and watch her get out of the living room.
He then walked to the balcony and solemnly looked at the entrance. Paul’s face was gloomy to no end but softened the moment Lucia was seen.

The appellation didn’t upset Paul. He just showed a wry look. “Do we have to be like this?”
When she saw him like that, her attitude softened. “Paul, I’m already married to
August and have to keep a distance from
you. We shouldn’t meet unless there is something important. After all, Cloud
Technology and the Lion Group are
competitors.”
Paul’s arm weakly dropped from mid-air. He collected himself and said, “I know
that you took Paula away. I’m here to
take her home.”
“Home?” Lucia sneered, “Is the Thomas’ residence her home or a cage to hold
her?”
Paul clasped his fingers but slowly unclasped them. He couldn’t really go hard on
Lucia or knew how to respond to her
question. His anger was directed at another person. If it were not for Daryl, Lucia
wouldn’t have known these things.
“I won’t hand Paula over to you. If you’re here to start a war, bring it on,” Lucia
said aloud.
The tough look on her face only made him more depressed. “Why are you so
hostile to me? Am I such a wicked person to

“Yes.” She indifferently glanced at his pained face.
“I’m Paula’s brother. I won’t hurt her. Everything I did is for her good. I’ve doted on her all
these years. You know that better than anyone else.” He sounded anxious. Perhaps, he
was in a hurry to explain everything or change Lucia’s
impression of him.
“For her good?” The anger in her tone became more evident. She strode over and stuffed
her phone into his hand. The
footage from the surveillance was on the screen.
“Is this how you dote on her?”
Paul was confused. His eyes fell on the video, in which Paula and Burton were fighting the
Vordan Pavilion. The hideous wounds on Paula’s arm came into view. She was in terrible
condition. Still, she cried out for her brother. He remained ‘genteel in her mind even when
she was suffering from the disease. Her heart-rending cries and murmurs pounded his
heart. The dismay on Paul’s face grew stronger. He turned off the screen without watching
it through. “How did Paula become like this?”
“I’d like to ask her good brother. How did he reduce his lively sister to this?” Lucia’s face
and tone were full of hostility. Paul dropped his eyes, gave the phone back to her, and said
in a relieved tone, “Please help me take care of Paula. I’ll
cover her expenses and apologize to her after she recovers.”
Lucia’s hostility towards him diminished a little. Still, she said coldly, “Mr. Thomas, you can
go back. This is not the right
place for you.”
She turned around and went back into the house. Paul was left standing there in a daze.
He came to question Lucia and take Paula home. When he was facing her, all the plans
fell apart. He didn’t have the heart to even talk harshly to her.
The smile on his face became more bitter. His resentment was all directed at Daryl.
From the pavilion, Daryl saw everything. Her heart was hollowed. Sure enough, Lucia was
special in his heart.
This man
often lost control in front of her. In contrast, he was so gentle in front of Lucia.
