Then, he put the cake plate down, and, after giving Lucia a grin, strode towards
August.
When the ward door was shut after the two men got out of the ward one after
another, August said indifferently without casting Paul a glance. “Don’t bother the
walk.”
Paul darted glances at August’s legs and then arms in bandages. He showed
coldness in his eyes. “With your current situation, what right you do have to keep
Lucia beside you?”
His straightforwardness stunned August slightly. However, the next second,
August, brows knitted and tace dark, said towards Paul, “So, tell me. What is my
situation?”
Paul sneered. He held the handles behind the wheelchair and pushed it forward.
As they were advancing, Paul said word by word, “Futureless, helpless,
powerless, defenseless.”
Each word was like a hatchet hacked right on the tip of August’s heart. August
clenched the arm of the wheelchair and looked furious.
Suddenly, Paul pushed the wheelchair with greater force and accelerated. Paul
leaned close to August and whispered right at his ear, “A man who couldn’t
protect his woman might as well kill himself.”
His voice was small but his words were the most vicious. Even August, who
never cared about others’ opinion on him, was somehow hurt by Paul’s words.
He couldn’t help remembering how Lucia was being scalded. She was like an
injured animal who could only pitifully curl up and tremble in vain.
if it wasn’t for him, Lucia wouldn’t have been scalded. He was wrong. However, it
didn’t necessarily mean that he could no longer protect her. Neither did it mean
that he should be full of remorse for his losses and broken legs and commit
suicide.
August felt that the push from Paul was getting stronger. He frowned as he saw
the crowd in front of them. He pressed the brake on the arm, and, as the wheels
were locked, stopped the wheelchair.
Paul stopped pushing after feeling the strong resistance from chairs. He looked
down at August and snorted, “August, you will never win her.”
After saying so, he strode towards Lucia’s ward before August could speak a
word.
August clenched his fists, veins standing out on the back of his hands, rage
flaming in his eyes.
He had never been humiliated like this before. His body was almost rent by his
wrath.
He had experienced lots of “first times” recently. He, the president of Lion Group,
should be reduced to what he was now, miserable, woeful and spurned.
The anger gradually faded away, and was replaced by an inexplicable feeling of
ridicule. August never imagined that he should have such experiences in his life.
He had a feeling of rebirth after all the hardship and obstacles. His fury had been
dispelled, and he was more clearly about his next step.
As for Lucia, he would not allow her to be together with Paul. This man, Paul
Thomas, was not as simple and innocent as he appeared to be.
