Moonborn Heir

Moonborn Heir Novel Chapter 29

Moonborn Heir Novel Chapter 29 – “Happy birthday, Talia,” Eira says, her voice rich and soothing, filled with a warmth that comforts me.

“Eira…” My voice wavers in my head. “You’re… here.” “Of course I’m here,” she says, her purr deepening. “You’re eighteen today. This is a special
day. Destiny awaits you, Talia. You’ll find your mate tonight. I can feel it.”

Her words hit me like a thunderclap, and I shake my head slightly, my heart thudding painfully. “No, Eira. Look at me. I don’t belong here. I don’t deserve—”
“Enough.” Her voice sharpens, cutting through my self-doubt. “Do not speak of yourself that way. You are more valuable than you know, Talia.

You’re beautiful, fierce, and worthy of everything the moon has promised you.” I close my eyes briefly, her conviction pulling at something deep within me. But the insecurities are harder to shake. “But what if… what if no one wants me? What if… I’m just invisible? A servant, a nobody?”

Eira growls softly, a sound that vibrates through me like distant thunder. “You are not invisible. ou are not a servant. You are mine, and I will not let you diminish yourself like this. Trust me, Talia. Let fate guide you tonight.”

Her words wrap around me, steady and firm, but I can’t help the small laugh that escapes me. “You’re so sure, aren’t you? Like destiny’s just going to swoop in and fix everything.” “I am sure,” Eira says with certainty, her voice softening now. “The moon does not make mistakes.

Trust her plan for you. Tonight will be a magical night.” I open my eyes, Kael still in my line of sight, his powerful presence commanding the room. My
chest tightens again, and I feel the faintest flicker of hope rising inside me, fighting to push past the doubt.

Eira’s confidence is a balm, soothing the ache in my chest, but before I can reply, the connection fades slightly, her voice quieting as I return my focus to the room. My gaze drifts back to Kael, and the pull is stronger now, undeniable.

And then his eyes meet mine. The air shifts, the crowd fading into the background as those piercing steel-grey eyes lock onto
me. The jolt is immediate, like a lightning strike straight through my core.

My breath catches, my heartbeat hammering against my ribs. Kael doesn’t look away, his eyes scanning me with an intensity that feels almost magnetic. For a moment, it feels like time has stopped, like it’s just us in the room.

“Talia?” Ronan’s voice breaks the spell, and I jump, spinning around to see my brother standing behind me. The connection to Kael snaps, leaving me breathless and confused. Ronan smiles warmly, his dark eyes kind. “You look beautiful,” he says softly, and I feel a wave of gratitude and guilt all at once.
“Thank you,” I murmur, stepping forward to hug him tightly. His arms wrap around me, grounding me for a moment.

“How’s Grandma?” he asks as we pull apart, his brows knitting together. “Still giving you hell?” I let out a soft laugh, though it’s tinged with sadness. “She’s been sick,” I admit. “I’ve been taking care of her.” He frowns, concern flickering in his expression. “Why didn’t you tell me? I would’ve helped.” “You’ve been busy,” I reply quickly. “Grandma wouldn’t want you worrying about her. Or me.”

Ronan looks like he’s about to argue, but the music shifts suddenly, and a hush falls over the room. Both of us turn toward the grand staircase, and I feel my heart sink. Sabrina stands at the top, radiant and perfect, framed by the golden glow of the chandeliers.

Her silver dress sparkles like starlight, clinging to her every curve, and her smile is serene and regal. She descends the stairs with a confidence that makes the entire room hold its breath. The crowd watches her in awe, and I glance at Kael, unable to stop myself. He’s smiling softly as he watches her, admiration clear in his expression. My chest tightens painfully, the flicker of hope I’d felt moments ago beginning to dim.

But then he glances sideways, his gaze shifting back to me. My breath catches again as his eyes find mine, the intensity returning, like he’s searching for something he doesn’t understand. He’s looking at me. Selene steps forward, her sharp eyes narrowing as she catches Kael’s lingering gaze. With a
subtle movement, she redirects his attention toward Sabrina, who continues her descent like a queen, every step poised and deliberate.

Kael’s expression hardens, slipping into the role expected of him. He moves toward the stairs, offering Sabrina his hand as she reaches the bottom.

“My Alpha,” she says with a smile that could melt stone, her voice smooth and practiced. Kael nods, his movements precise and controlled, as if he’s been rehearsing this moment his entire life. He leads her onto the dance floor, and the crowd parts for them as if commanded by an unseen force.

The music shifts to a waltz, and Sabrina glides effortlessly in Kael’s arms, her smile radiant as she plays the perfect Luna-to-be. The room watches them with hushed reverence, some wolves whispering about the power their union will bring. It’s like a scene from a storybook, flawless andideal.

But I can’t stop the sinking feeling in my chest. Lurking behind the curtains, I’m invisible again, just as I expected. Betas walk by without sparing me a glance, their gazes fixed on the dazzling she-wolves scattered across the ballroom.

A few girls stroll past, their gowns shimmering as they laugh and whisper. One sneers at me, her eyes sweeping over my dress like it’s an insult to
be seen in it. But most don’t even notice I exist. I pull further into the shadows, trying to make myself smaller.

But no matter how hard I try, I can’t shake the feeling that someone’s watching me. My skin prickles, and I glance toward the dance floor. My breath catches. Kael’s eyes are on me again. It’s impossible, I tell myself, forcing my gaze down. He’s dancing with Sabrina.

He’s promised to her. But the weight of his stare lingers, heavy and undeniable. I glance up again, just for a second, and his piercing grey eyes meet mine. My heart pounds painfully in my chest. “Talia.” Ronan’s voice pulls me back to reality, and I turn to see him standing beside me, smiling nervously. I follow his gaze to a girl across the room—a soft-spoken she-wolf with warm brown eyes and a shy smile. She glances at Ronan, and her cheeks flush pink.

“I’m going to ask her to dance,” Ronan says, rubbing the back of his neck. There’s a hint of nervousness in his voice, but also excitement. I nod, smiling despite the ache in my chest. “Go. She’s lucky to have you.” He gives me a grateful look before crossing the room, his movements confident yet humble.

Iwatch as he approaches her, offers his hand, and she takes it with a timid smile. My heart swells slightly, pride overtaking my sadness. Ronan deserves this. A place in the pack. A chance to find his mate. He’s worked so hard to earn it.

But as I glance back toward the dance floor, the heaviness returns. Kael and Sabrina move effortlessly, Sabrina’s laughter ringing out as she twirls in his arms. Yet his smile falters, his movements becoming stiffer. And then, as if pulled by some invisible force, his gaze drifts again—toward me.

I freeze, my breath catching in my throat. Sabrina notices it too. Her laughter fades, her steps faltering as her smile twists into something sharper. She says something to Kael, her tone low but laced with irritation. Kael’s response is calm, unreadable, but it’s clear that whatever he says doesn’t satisfy her.

She clenches her jaw, trying to keep her composure as he releases her hand. He steps off the dance floor, his movements deliberate as he walks through the crowd. My heart thunders in my chest as I realize where he’s going. No. This can’t be happening. But it is. Kael is walking toward me.

The room seems to freeze, all eyes turning to follow his path. Conversations stop, the music fades into the background, and the air grows thick with tension. My hands tremble at my sides as I press myself back against the curtain, hoping, praying, that he’ll stop before he reaches me. But he doesn’t.
He stops in front of me, his towering frame blocking out everything else.

His grey eyes pierce into mine, and for a moment, I forget how to breathe. “Dance with me,” he says, his voice deep and steady, as if it’s the most natural thing in the world.
