What was more exaggerated was that Terry led them to a car after they went in. He said with a smile, “Well, this place is big. It will take us a while if we walk.” Lucia returned a smile, believing that she would go nuts if she lived here.
She sat in the car and looked out of the window. Like the outside, the manor was heavily guarded inside. There was a guard in the interval of dozens of meters. Every one of them looked strong. The monitors were everywhere.
Probably, no introducers would get away from such a place. She watched quietly. About ten minutes later, they arrived at the castle which was in the center of the manor. After getting out of the car, they walked for a few minutes before reaching the parlor.
While dining with them, Terry introduced them to the history of the manor and occasionally asked them business questions. Lucia responded calmly with a smile. August made supplementary comments from time to time. Daryl quietly had her steak, played the role of their assistant, and listened.
Terry had a happy meal with them. He was short of hands, to begin with, and Marlena liked this man. The situation was in his favor. After dinner, he took them to the garden. It was spring in Lamar City, and the weather was nice. The roses were rare and fresh.
Women liked flowers, and Lucia was no exception. She couldn’t help but be attracted. August saw her expression, leaned over, and whispered, “I’ll get you such flowers when we get back.’ Her cheeks turned rosy. Feeling sweet, she was about to say something when Daryl’s cry came over.
Startled, Lucia asked her what happened. Daryl’s face was pale, a sign of her fear. “I felt that someone touched me.”Lucia looked around but saw no one. Terry’s face changed. He said, “I think you were probably scratched by the thorns of the roses. Please be careful.”
Daryl nodded but still felt strange. It didn’t feel like the thorns. The change in Terry’s expression didn’t escape Lucia’s eyes. She leaned over and asked Daryl while Terry wasn’t looking. “What happened?” “I’m sure that someone touched me,” Daryl replied.
Lucia frowned, thinking of Terry’s expression. She had reason to believe that
something was off.
“I want to go and look around. There may be a trace left.”
Lucia was hesitant. She didn’t want Daryl to take the risk, but the latter promised
that she would act rashly. Lucia agreed in the end. Daryl left on the pretext of her
poor health. Given her pale face, Terry thought that she was scared.
He didn’t
suspect anything.
After Daryl left, he quickened his pace as if he was trying to leave the place as
soon as possible. It only added to Lucia’s doubt. What was the Smith family
