Submit To The Boss Lucia And August Novel Chapter 812 – Confrontation
Lucia felt a chill down her spine. She took Phillip into her arms and reminded herself silently to keep calm in front of Edmund. Her acting would determine whether Phillip could be cured or not. A lot of ideas came to her as she put on a disappointed look.
“Mr. Shea, Ms. Capet has tried her best, but it didn’t work. You may have to bring Phillip here more often.’ Edmund lowered his eyes slightly. Lucia could tell that he was pretending. There was a smile on his face when he looked up and he even reassured Lucia, “I’m used to it. Don’t feel too bad.
Phillip is getting better. We have to trust him.” Lucia nodded absent-mindedly. Edmund raised his arm and was about to put it on her shoulder when a cold voice came from a short distance away. “I should have brought you along.”
Hearing the familiar voice, Lucia was surprised and turned her head subconsciously. As expected, it was August. He was standing side by side with Joshua, his hands in his pockets. The cold look in his eyes seemed to be able to freeze everything.
The soft look in Edmund’s eyes faded at once. He and August both saw the hostility in each other’s eyes. Instead of walking forward, he said casually as if he was showing off to August,’ Mr. Adams, didn’t you know I had an appointment with Lucia? Lucia is really careless. Don’t get us wrong.”
August glanced at him and replied casually, “It doesn’t matter. She never has to explain to me.” August’s snort irritated Edmund. He clenched his fists silently and felt that August had seen through him.
“What are you doing here?” Lucia was afraid that August would misunderstand her, so she immediately walked up to him and took his hand. “I brought Phillip to Sophie for treatment, but it was too dangerous to have three children in the car, so I asked Mr. Shea to bring Phillip here himself.
I wouldn’t have bothered him if I had known you were coming’ Edmund called her Lucia but she called him Mr. Shea. It said it all.
August held Lucia’s hand as she spoke and fiddled with her wedding ring as if it were just a little habit.
“I’m here to talk partnership with Joshua,” he said in a low
voice. “I saw Timothy and Janet in the hallway and learned that you’re helping
someone else again.’
Lucia glanced at the two children as if to ask why they hadn’t told her. Janet
pouted innocently. She had just tried to say it, but she hadn’t gotten a chance.
Their hands hurt Edmund’s eyes, but he tried his best to calm himself down and
walked slowly toward them. “Mr. Adams, I may have to bother Lucia a lot in the
next few days. As you know, she cares a lot about Phillip. Please excuse my
bothering.” He extended his hand to August gracefully, but August had no
intention of shaking hands with him.
August just said in a cold, sarcastic voice, Mr. Shea, since you don’t have time to
take care of your son, you should get married instead of bothering someone
else’s wife.”
The temperature around them suddenly dropped a lot. Sophie thought it was a
good opportunity to test Edmund and gave Lucia a wink.
Lucia understood what she meant. She deliberately leaned against August’s
chest and rubbed her fingers on his suit jacket. “Phillip is a good friend to our
children. It’s only right that we care about him.”
August gulped and immediately took Lucia’s fingers in his hand. Feeling her body
stiffen, he realized what she was thinking, took her into his arms, and said softly,
“I’m with you. Don’t get too tired.”
Edmund noticed Lucia’s little movement. His pupils subconsciously constricted as
he stared at the couple and curled his fingers slightly to suppress the urge to
clench his fists.
Joshua maintained a flippant smile. Seeing Edmund standing still, he
immediately walked forward and shook hands with him. “No wonder Sophie has
been so busy lately. Turns out she got a big order. The fee…” He turned to look at
the giant glorious sign and rubbed his fingers together. “You know, business is
tough. We can barely make ends meet.”
Edmund took out his wallet elegantly and wrote a check. “This is a deposit for
Ms. Capet. I can give you all I have if my son is really cured.”
Joshua took the check and flicked it. Seeing the number on it, he smacked his
lips and said, Mr. Shea, I didn’t think you could offer such a large sum of money.
Do I underestimate the salary of a government employee? Does your family have
money?”
After all, government employees were forbidden to embezzle.
Edmund realized that he had been set up by August and Joshua, but he
explained calmly, “Truth be told, it’s my late wife’s compensation. She won’t
blame me for spending the money on Phillip.”
Sophie cleared her throat and Lucia immediately got out of August’s arms. She
was uncomfortable and just wanted to leave as soon as possible.’ Mr. Shea,
Phillip is just stabilizing. You’d better take him home and get some rest.”
Edmund didn’t get angry but said with a smile, “Mr. Adams has to work. I’ll drive
you and the children back.’
“I have my car…” Lucia muttered.
Edmund didn’t insist and left straight away.
Timothy and Janet scanned the adults with wide eyes and came to a conclusion.
It was rare to see such an exciting scene! The world of adults was so scary!
