Submit To The Boss Lucia And August Novel Chapter 698 – Why Should I Trust You?

One day, Daryl went to the Thomas’ house to visit Paula as usual. Paula now was being confined at home and Daryl kept seeing her in the hope that the visit could soothe Paula somehow. Not long after Daryl got out of the gate, she caught the sight of Lucia who was pressing on eagerly.

As they crossed paths, Daryl turned back to call Lucia, “Lucia?” Lucia looked back in bewilderment. “Do you know me?” she asked this strange woman
politely. With a gentle smile, Daryl replied, “Mr. Adams is already famous enough, let alone being the mother of Timothy and Janet.

I of course know you.” Lucia nodded lightly, “Excuse me but I’ve got to go.” Daryl tried to detain Lucia as she said blandly, “But Mr. Thomas has been absent for a couple of days, Miss Thomas is thus not allowed to meet you.”

Hearing Daryl mentioning Paula, Lucia turned back instantly. The anxiety rendered her voice even colder, “Who are you? Why are you so clear about their business?” Daryl sighed with a wry smile before her face resumed the emotionless expression.

“May I have a word with you since you could meet neither of them today?” Lucia looked at Daryl narrowing with a skeptical gaze. Daryl’s pretty and innocent face just reminded Lucia of the saying “Don’t trust any beautiful woman”.

Lucia knew Daryl was approaching her with a certain purpose, though she didn’t know what the exact intention was. Lucia just warned herself to be cautious, especially when she had be cheated by Jeanne’s innocent manners and “excellent” acting for so many times.

Knowing what Lucia was being afraid, Daryl gave her phone and handbag to Lucia and motioned her to look at Burton, who was trying to catch up with Lucia alongside his underlings. “It’s I, rather than you, who should be worried about my own safety, isn’t it?” Daryl laughed.

Lucia nodded slowly. She decided to allow this woman to come closer, for that was the only way to reveal her real intention. They thus picked a quiet cafe in the nearby shopping mall.

Daryl tried to have Lucia lay down her defense by presenting her own identity and background honestly and keeping Lucia updated with everything in Thomas family recently. Lucia clenched her hands into balls as she listened. Paul had simply been frenzied unexpectedly.

Not only did he hurt innocent Daryl, but also harmed his
own sister again and again. “The wounds on your arm…?” Lucia was careful
enough
to notice them.

Daryl was wearing a thin shirt with long sleeves despite the sultry heat just to
conceal the wounds. She had just been too engrossed in the chatting with Lucia
to keep them hidden. She had to pull down the sleeves with resignation, “Just got
hurt while watching TV. He is very moody now and could commit something
extreme any minute. Luckily he will calm
down soon after that.”

The cuts were so deep that Lucia didn’t think Daryl had faked them. When Lucia
looked up again, the doubts in her eyes had been replaced by a sense of
seriousness. “Why should I trust you?” demanded Lucia.
“You are starting to trust me when you raise such a question.” Daryl sounded
very confident. “And trust is the very
reason for you to get me to show you more convincing evidence.”
Lucia didn’t argue. Instead, she confirmed, “You are very smart.”

“Only a smart replica of you.” Daryl took a sip of the coffee and turned solemn as
she gazed at Lucia while leaning against the sofa. “There are only two things in
the world that you can’t look straightly at. One is the sun and the other, human’s
heart. It’s understandable that you think me suspicious. But isn’t it easy for you to
look into my background?
And my confidence doesn’t come from nowhere if you do carry out the
investigation.”

Despite the remaining sense of vigilance, Lucia still decided to trust Daryl in a
temporary term. She pushed her name card
to Daryl, “Just feel free to contact me if you meet any trouble, and I’ll try my best
to help. If you want to do anything to repay, please inform me of any news of the
Thomases.”

Daryl didn’t take the name card, only jotting down the phone number on it. She
then pushed the card back, “My trouble might be too tough for you to tackle. But I
promise I will let you know anything related to you, including those about
Paula.”
The agreement being reached, they decided to depart quickly. Lucia rose to her
feet and paid for the coffee. But she was held back at the door when Daryl
suddenly remembered something. Daryl quickly dialed a number, “Dianna, this is
Daryl…”

Hearing the familiar name, Lucia’s eyes flashed with a note of hope. She
returned to her seat to wait for more
information. She knew Dianna was a servant of the family, being a friend of the
Thomases for so many years. After exchanging pleasantries with Dianna, Daryl
suddenly instructed in a low voice, “Could you send the phone into the room of
Miss Thomas? I’ve got something to inform her.” She then gave the phone to
Lucia and motioned her to answer
it.

Giving Daryl a grateful look, Lucia took the phone and immediately heard Paula’s
voice.
“What’s the matter, Daryl?” Paula sounded quite weak and weary.
Lucia gave Daryl some extra points since Paula, who was so good at telling a dishonest
person from the kind ones, was
calling Daryl by her given name. That intimacy was an endorsement of Daryl’s honesty.
“This is Lucia.” Lucia told Paula at the other end of the phone.

After a short silence, Paula spoke again in the weary tone, though being a bit trembling,
“Daryl, Paul just got home.” Having grasped Paula’s implication, Lucia just felt so bitter.
She asked softly, “Are you OK?”
“Paul has been quite OK. No worries.” Paula replied.
As the conversation with code words went on, Lucia’s eyes reddened and there was a hint
of sobbing in her voice. Paula hurried to comfort her, “Don’t get upset, Daryl.

I…”
Lucia finally failed to suppress the grievance when she got to know the plight of Paula.
She quickly rang off with a pretext
before her tears burst out. And just before the conversation was over, she heard Paula’s
last sentence which went quite
quickly
“Daryl, I really hate to stay in my room all day. Could you help me persuade Paul again?”

Lucia told Daryl what Paula had been saying, and Daryl could only frown with resignation,
“I tried to reconcile them but
failed again and again. Paul just wouldn’t listen to me, and I’m just afraid he’ll stop me
from seeing Paula if I keep on
persuading him. Perhaps you are the only one in the world whose advice he would
accept.”

Lucia shook her head. Paul had cheated her time and time again, and even hid the real
condition of Paula from her. Lucia
knew Paul would definitely want her to keep away from this matter. After quite some
consideration, Lucia resolved to say,
“Let’s get Paula out secretly since we can’t change Paul’s mind.”
