Submit To The Boss Lucia And August Novel Chapter 597 – You Can’t Make the Horse Drink!
“They disappeared? How inexplicable!” Calvin checked along that direction, just to find the seats empty now. Lucia looked back too, and then turned to Darnell, “Must be his fans.
I noticed a number of girls gazing at him obsessively on the way just now, some of them even took candid pictures of him.”
Calvin burst into laughter while scratching his head. “That makes sense. Darnell has always been the lady-killer everywhere.
All the girls just took a tancy to him when he was in the troop.” Lucia laughed too. “Then how come this lady-killer is still a singleton, Darnell? Or are you
kidding?” asked Lucia without thinking Darnell only smiled.
Taking a sip of the drink, he answered blandly, “None of them succeeded in stealing my heart.” Lucia’s smile got more brilliant at his reply.
“What are you laughing at?” Darnell raised his eyebrows.
“Nothing.” Lucia shook her head, only beaming at him while keeping what she thought to herself. Not being able to meet a crush when at
popular man was surrounded by women only meant too high a standard he was having.
And the girl he finally chose could only be an angel! As the atmosphere was getting more and more friendly, the casual and pleasant
conversation brought them closer.
Soon after they made the order, Calvin brought Lucia a bottle of milk tea, “Darnell elaborately told me to serve you this special recipe of Plant World.” Lucia was a little surprised that Darnell should have remembered what she had mentioned casually!
She thanked Calvin and took a sip of it. The peculiar flavor went with a faint touch of plants in addition to the normal
fragrance of milk tea. “It’s wonderful!” Lucia exclaimed to Calvin in amazement.
“Thank you for the compliment!” Calvin replied shyly, scratching his head. “You will always be welcome whenever you’d like to have a
bottle of it.” Lucia nodded, just feeling so pleasantly relaxed.
The pressure and gloominess brought by all the troubles which had upset her for so long
suddenly vanished after the meal and chat with Darnell in Plant World. As they
walked out of the restaurant after the dinner, Lucia told
Darnell gently, “Thank you for the meal. I really had a nice time.”
“I should be the one to thank you, for helping me choose the gift.” Darnell replied
with a smile.
They separated when Darnell had sent Lucia to her car. Lucia then drove back to
West Bridge in such a cheerful mood that she even
hummed a song on the way.
Having taken off her shoes joyfully at the hallway, Lucia was thinking about taking
a shower when she was stopped by her mother.
“Where have you been, Lucia?” Elisa looked rather agitated, “You didn’t answer
my calls!”
Lucia took out her phone at once, just to find several unanswered calls from her
mother, alongside the message from Paula. She missed out all of them as she
silenced her phone while driving. “What’s the matter, Mom? 1 just forgot to
connect the Bluetooth to the speaker.
Why are you so worried?” asked Lucia.
“Paul seemed quite pissed off when he came back today.” Elisa hastened to
remind. “He just went straight into the study without any
word. I dared not to ask him about it. You’d better go check it at once.”
Lucia’s heart did a flip as Elisa mentioned the study. She hurried to go up.
Standing in front of the study, she hesitated as it occurred to her that she’d better have a check of Paula’s message first.
[I brought Burton back home to meet my parents and told them about our plan to
marry. Paul went back soon and left angrily. How is it going at your end?1 The
message read.
Lucia tensed, reading Paula’s message. She just hadn’t anticipated Paula would
tell the truth to her parents so early, which got Paul
aware of it too. That meant Paul had also known they’d taken the passport
secretly. Gritting her teeth, Lucia tried to calm herself down She knew she had to
make it clear with Paul as early as possible to prevent the misunderstanding from
worsening
Taking a deep breath, she lifted her hand and was about to knock on the door
when the door was opened from inside. Paul stood there as
though he had predicted she’d been back.
“Paul…” said Lucia with a violent heartbeat.
“Come in.” his voice sounded so cold.
Lucia obeyed, daring not to say anything. The door was instantly banged close. Catching
the sight of the passport on the table, Lucia took
a gasp as though something heavy was pressing against her shoulders. “I’m sorry for that.
I admit I took it for Paula.” she articulated
each word, with her eyes closed.
“Why did you do that?” Paul’s voice became even more chilly.
“Can’t you see why?” Lucia clenched her fists. “Paula genuinely loves Burton. Do you
think she will gain the true happiness and express
her gratitude to you if you separate them deliberately?”
Paul’s face darkened silently. After a while, he came up with a solution, “I’ll find her a
better husband.”
His over-confident remark brought Lucia into a fury immediately. She rebuked him without
hesitation, “Isn’t love built upon the base of
mutual willingness? What if she doesn’t like the so-called better one you find for her? You
can lead a horse to the water but you can’t
make it drink!”
Lucia’s words thrust into Paul’s heart like a dagger. “…but you can’t make it drink!” As the
last sentence resounded around his ears, Paul couldn’t help doubting it actually referred to
the relationship between Lucia and him.
Conscious of his embarrassment, Lucia said in a blander tone after taking a deep breath,
“Paul, I know you want Paula to be happy. But her own choice comes first, doesn’t it?”
She then went on softly, “As her best friend, I can’t let her marry a man she doesn’t love, I
did. that for her only because I believe Burton is a trustable man based upon my long time
observation and careful judgment. I don’t think you need to worry…”
You think you are in the position to meddle with the business of my family?” Paul suddenly
cut in with a snort.
That was a violent blow to Lucia, which really hurt her badly. In Paul’s eyes, she was not
eligible to care about anyone in Thomas family! And he just regarded her as an ignorant
outsider! With a severe heartache, Lucia stepped back subconsciously and was
determined to leave the study.
Paul suddenly turned back and shouted, “I didn’t mean that, Lucia…”
Lucia wouldn’t listen to his explanation. She only shook her head while fastening her steps
towards the door.
