Moonborn Heir

Moonborn Heir Novel Chapter 9

Moonborn Heir Novel Chapter 9 – I pace the length of my study, every step hard, muscles taut with a tension that’s grown relentless. My mind should be clear, focused on the alliance I’ve secured with Sabrina.

Her family’s resources will fortify Shadow Ridge, giving us the edge we need to bring the smaller packs under our command and push against Darkfang’s borders. But despite the logic, the strategy, a pull gnaws at me — a lingering restlessness that refuses to fade.

Deep down, I know the source. Talia. No matter how hard I try to banish her, Talia still clings to the edges of my mind, slipping into the cracks I’d rather keep sealed. The bond I tried to sever still pulses, faint and raw, like a wound that refuses to heal. And Fenrir, my wolf, doesn’t make it any easier.

He prowls within me, furious and unsettled, resisting every decision I’ve made. “You chose wrong.” His growl cuts through my thoughts, primal and accusing. “Enough!” I shove him back, keeping my voice steady. “I did what was best for the pack.”

Fenrir doesn’t relent, his presence pressing against me like a shadow I can’t escape. “You pushed away our true mate for this…superficial alliance.” His snarl reverberates through my bones, filling me with a doubt I can’t afford.

The door swings open, Sabrina’s scent sweeping into the room — cold, demanding, filling the space with an air of expectation. Her gaze lands on me, piercing and unyielding. She knows. Of course, she does. She’s sensed the struggle within me, the way my wolf still yearns for someone who isn’t her.

“Kael,” she says, her voice slicing through the silence, sharp as a blade. “How long are you going to pretend you’re here with me? That you chose me?”
I straighten, forcing myself to meet her gaze with unwavering resolve. “I did choose you,” I reply, my tone hard, leaving no room for doubt.

“I’m here, Sabrina.” She narrows her eyes, stepping closer, her expression laced with suspicion. “But your mind is somewhere else. Or rather,” she sneers, “with someone else. Are you still pining over her? Over a woman who left without a second thought?”

Her words stir Fenrir’s anger, his low growl simmering within me. “She didn’t leave,” he snarls. “You pushed her away.” I force him back, tightening my grip on control, but he fights me, refusing to be silenced. Sabrina watches me, her gaze flicking over my face, catching every flicker of conflict. “You’re risking
everything, Kael. Our alliance. Your authority. The pack needs an Alpha who isn’t torn in two.”

I grit my teeth, forcing down Fenrir’s rage, even as he claws at me, relentless in his demand to reclaim what we’ve lost. “I’m not torn, Sabrina. I’ve made my choice.” I say, voice taut, the strain evident. “I chose you.” She steps closer, her gaze sharp and dangerous, her lips curving into a smile that’s both seductive and challenging. “Then prove it. Because if you keep letting the shadow of that worthless bitch hang over you…you’ll lose me, and our alliance.

I refuse to live under anyone’s shadow.” A growl rumbles in my chest, my fists clenching. Fenrir’s rage echoes through me, a feral energy that strains against my control. The bond with Talia resists Sabrina’s threat, pushing back, lingering despite everything. Sabrina’s eyes flash with something dark, and she raises her hand, her touch cool as it trails up my arm.

“Show me, Kael,” she murmurs, her voice dropping to a low purr. “Show me how much you want me.” Her fingers slip along my chest, sending a jolt of electricity through my tight abdomen and a shiver down my legs. Against my will, she makes me hard. Her scent presses against my senses, sharp and insistent. I pull her close, capturing her mouth in a kiss with a force I can’t control, burying Fenrir’s defiance, and silencing the storm within.

Sabrina presses against me, her body molding to mine as she deepens the kiss, her hands roaming down my back, pulling me in with an intensity that
sends heat through my loins. For a fleeting moment, I let myself get lost in the heat, in the need to prove I’m committed to this alliance. But even as I pull her closer, my mind betrays me, drifting unbidden to Talia. Her scent, her touch, the bond that still flickers, fragile and tenacious, refusing to fade.

“This isn’t right,” Fenrir growls, his voice seething with defiance. “She’s not the one, Kael.” Sabrina senses my mind wandering, and her eyes narrow as she pulls back slightly.

“Are you thinking of her?” she hisses, her voice laced with accusation. Her hand presses against my chest, her nails digging in as if daring me to prove her wrong. “Prove to me that you’ve let her go.”

I say nothing, capturing her mouth again, harder this time, as if intensity alone could drown out the conflict raging inside me. Fenrir’s growls echo in my mind, his fury seething, but I push him down, determined to prove to Sabrina — and perhaps to myself — that I’ve chosen my path.

Sabrina responds eagerly, her hands cupping around my ass, her touch insistent, grounding me in the present, binding me to the choice I’ve made. Her lips trail along my neck, her breath hot against my skin, and I surrender to the physical need, forcing myself to focus on her, on the alliance that will strengthen the pack. But as I give in to Sabrina’s lust, Fenrir’s rage simmers beneath the surface, his protest muted yet unyielding.

An image of Talia flickers in my mind — her defiance, her strength, the fire that had always drawn me in. I shove it down, locking it away, burying it beneath the weight of duty. Tonight, I tell myself, Sabrina is my mate. My choice. I silence every lingering doubt, every flicker of regret. I’m here, committed, bound by the alliance I’ve sworn to uphold.

Sabrina’s hands tighten around me, her nails digging into my back as she whispers my name, a triumphant gleam in her eyes. She realizes I’m finally hers in body, if not fully in spirit. Her touch grounds me, anchoring me to the present, binding me to the path I’ve set. For tonight, I’ve silenced my wolf, buried the part of me that longs for Talia. I follow through without hesitation, letting the past slip away, if only for now.
