Moonborn Heir

Moonborn Heir Novel Chapter 3

Moonborn Heir Novel Chapter 3 – Alpha Lucian walks beside me, close enough that his arm brushes mine with each step, the touch sending a shiver through me.

I feel his eyes on me, sharp and calculating, as though he’s unraveling a mystery he’s determined to solve.

“So,” he murmurs, his voice low and rich, “why would a Shadow Ridge wolf turn her back on her Alpha?”

The question is laced with challenge, and I can’t help the thrill that shoots through me at his scrutiny. “Does it matter?”

I reply coolly, meeting his gaze with a defiance that masks the chaos within me. “I have no ties to that pack. Not anymore.”

His mouth quirks, an almost-smile that sends heat to my cheeks. “Is that so?” he murmurs, letting his gaze linger on my face. “No attachments? No loyalties?”

“None worth keeping,” I say, forcing steel into my tone, though my pulse races under his intense regard. His presence is intoxicating, each step amplifying the tension between us.

He hums thoughtfully, his gaze darkening as he looks away, scanning the trees around us. “Loyalty is a rare thing,” he says, almost to himself. “It makes me wonder what kind of Alpha would let go of a mate like you…or what could make a mate reject her Alpha.”

I bristle at his words, feeling the sting of the truth they carry. “Maybe he wasn’t as strong as he liked to pretend,” I reply, keeping my voice steady. “Some Alphas aren’t worth following.”

Lucian’s eyes flick back to me, something predatory glinting within them. “Then you’ll find Dark fang is different. I don’t easily let go of what’s mine.” His words are a quiet vow, laced with possessiveness that makes my breath hitch.

I force myself to hold his gaze, refusing to be drawn in by the allure of his words. “I’m not yours,” I whisper, my voice barely audible over the pounding of my heart. “Not now, not ever.”

“Is that a challenge, Talia?” he murmurs, stepping closer, his gaze locking onto mine with an intensity that steals the air from my lungs. His voice drops, low and intimate. “Because I do love a challenge.”

I swallow, fighting the heat that rises between us, a magnetic pull that makes it hard to remember my own strength, my own resolve. “You should tread cautiously, Alpha Lucian, with a she-wolf you don’t know” I reply, my voice faltering even as I cling to my defiance.

He chuckles softly, the sound vibrating through me. “Oh, I intend to.”

We reach Darkfang’s main grounds a vast, shadowed enclave ringed by towering trees and thick underbrush. Wolves halt mid-task, their eyes snapping to me, curiosity mingling with something darker. I square my shoulders, resisting the urge to flinch under their piercing stares that press down, heavy and unrelenting.

Lucian’s hand brushes lightly against the small of my back, guiding me forward, and I glance up at him, taken aback by the unexpected gesture. His gaze is steady, dark and unreadable, holding mine for a brief, intense moment before he nods forward, silently urging me to keep pace.

Rhea leans close, her voice a soft whisper against my ear. “Be careful with him, Talia,” she murmurs, her gaze flicking to Lucian before settling on me, concern etched in her features. “Remember what you’re carrying.” Her words, though cryptic, are clear- a reminder of the secret I must protect at all costs.

I nod, the weight of her warning settling over me, grounding me even as Lucian’s presence pulls me in.

“Welcome to Darkfang,” Lucian says, his voice low, almost a growl. His wolves part for him without hesitation, bowing their heads in deference. I catch the glances they exchange as they size me up, as though wondering why their Alpha brought a stranger — a runaway – from a rival pack. I try to keep my expression neutral, not giving anything away.

Lucian leads us to a wide clearing where a small group of wolves gather, this novel is taken from novelkoo.com. talking in hushed tones that quiet as we approach. One of them steps forward, his presence radiating authority second only to Lucian’s. He’s tall, with dark hair and sharp eyes that seem to take in every detail.

“This is Cade, my Primary Beta,” Lucian says, his tone carrying an edge of respect for the other man. Cade’s gaze flicks to Rhea, lingering for a moment, something appreciative flashing in his eyes before he turns his attention to me. Instantly, his expression hardens, suspicion etched into his features.

“A Shadow Ridge wolf,” he says, the disdain in his tone unmistakable. “Bringing in strays now, are we?” His eyes narrow, his gaze traveling over me with open mistrust. “What’s your story, she-wolf?”

I stiffen, unwilling to give him the satisfaction of a reaction. “I don’t owe you any explanations,” I reply coolly, meeting his gaze with defiance.

Cade’s lip curls in a smirk, but his gaze shifts to Lucian. “Alpha, we don’t need her here. She’s a risk. And a Shadow Ridge wolf? She could turn on us the moment she’s out of sight.”
Lucian’s eyes harden, and his voice drops to a lethal calm. “I have offered her my protection, Cade. That includes respect from my Betas.”

Cade’s jaw tightens, but he doesn’t back down entirely. “Respect is earned, Alpha. She may have your protection, but she still has to prove herself. We can’t afford any weakness in the pack.”

Lucian’s gaze flicks to me, something unreadable in his eyes. “She will prove herself. In time.” He shifts his gaze back to Cade, his tone brooking no further argument. “But that’s a discussion for later. For now, they’re our guests, and they will be treated as such.”

Cade huffs, crossing his arms as he eyes me one last time before nodding curtly to Lucian. “As you wish, Alpha.”

I swallow, the tension in the air thick around me, and instinctively place a hand near my stomach. Lucian’s gaze flicks to the movement, a slight crease in his brow, but he says nothing, guiding us forward. Cade follows behind us.

As we move through the camp, Lucian gestures to a series of cabins in a quiet corner, offering a semblance of privacy from the main grounds. “You’ll stay here,” he says, his tone firm but not unkind.

Just as Rhea and I begin to step forward, Cade reaches out, gently grasping Rhea’s arm. “You can stay with me,” he says, his voice softer, almost inviting.

My protective instinct flares, and I step forward to pull Rhea back, but she gives me a quick smile and a subtle bat of her eyelashes. “I’ll be fine, Talia,” she murmurs, her voice laced with a hint of excitement.

I hesitate, searching her face for any sign of discomfort, but she looks…interested. It’s enough to make me reluctantly step back, though I can’t shake the nagging worry in the pit of my stomach. I don’t trust Cade. My chest clenches with concern as I watch him lead Rhea away.

Lucian’s hand finds the small of my back, guiding me toward my cabin, and his touch is surprisingly comforting. “Get some rest,” he says, his voice low and steady. “Tomorrow, we’ll talk more about where you fit into Darkfang.”

I nod gratefully and bow my head in submission. “Thank you for your protection, Alpha Lucian.” His eyes flicker as he acknowledges my submission. “The pleasure is mine,” he responds with a cocky smile.

But just as I’m about to walk into the cabin, he pulls me into him, his chiseled abdomen grazing my chest. My heart flutters, as my body reacts against my will. I blush, knowing he can feel my nipples harden on his tight abs. He leans his head down and whispers into my ear, “But remember, Talia. Protection has a price.”

I swallow, and my breath hitches as I respond, “Yes, Alpha, I understand,” my voice a soft purr. His eyes glimmer with satisfaction, as he glances down at my firm nipples, and then he walks away without another word.

As I enter the cabin, Lucian’s gaze lingers on me, and I can feel the weight of his words — a mixture of protection and something darker, something possessive that makes my heart pound despite myself. My head spins as everything that’s happened tonight comes crashing down on top of me.
