Liberty laughed, “After all those years, you’re still jealous of him?” Duncan smiled. “I can’t help it. You were with him first, you loved him for years, married him, and have a beautifulson like Sonny.
I can’t help but wish I’d been the one to be with you from the start. Why couldn’t we have gone from school uniforms to wedding dresses together?”
Liberty said softly, “Everyone’s path is meant to be. Maybe this is just the way my journey goes.” She accepted that she was destined for a second marriage.
But she felt blessed to have Duncan, such a good man, as her second husband. Duncan sighed, “I stayed single all these years because I was waiting for you.” Liberty smiled, “You sure know how to say sweet things now.”
Duncan chuckled, “When you’re in love, sweet words come naturally. Look at Zachary- he makes Seren happy and makes her fall for him. Honestly, I think I’m even better than him.”
He believed he was gentler than Zachary. Even now, Zachary remained reserved around others. Zachary’s warmth was only for Serenity.
