I Switched Fiancés After His Betrayal with My Stepsister Novel Chapter 4 – The next morning, the sound of quiet voices woke me abruptly. My back throbbed from a restless night, but I did my best to ignore the discomfort as I glanced toward the source of the noise.
In the living room stood a group of men in black suits, each holding a briefcase packed with gold bars. One of them stepped forward and handed my father, Clay, a platinum card.
“Mr. Myers, this is a gift from Mr. Isaac Young for the engagement, valued at over one million dollars. Please confirm the amount.”
We had only met Isaac once, yet his generosity was overwhelming. The shiny gold left Bria and Neriah stunned, their eyes wide with disbelief. My father, usually so stern, broke into a rare smile as he shook the man’s hand.
“Please pass my gratitude to Mr. Young. We’ll make sure Adaline has an unforgettable wedding.”
Unable to sleep the night before, I’d spent hours scouring the internet for information about Isaac Young. I had always thought that Johan Walker and Isaac were siblings, but they were actually cousins. Two years ago, Isaac and his parents had a tragic car accident.
On the day of the accident, Isaac was supposed to be named the Young family heir. Tragically, both his parents were killed, and though Isaac survived, he lost his sight. The inheritance had been in limbo ever since, with his grandmother managing the family’s business affairs.
The men in suits left shortly after delivering the gift, leaving Bria and Neriah simmering, their frustrations evident. Neriah couldn’t hold back her bitterness, clutching Bria’s hand and whispering her complaints.
“Mom, it’s clear Adaline orchestrated this from the start, leaving Johan for Isaac after finding out about his wealth. She’ll always have the advantage now.”
Her words slipped out before she could stop them, taking my father by surprise; he’d always thought of Neriah as kind and understanding. Bria quickly covered Neriah’s mouth, reminding her to maintain decorum in front of Clay.
Neriah reluctantly sat down, unable to voice her anger. After calming Neriah down, Bria smiled at my father.
“Clay, Isaac is incredibly generous. The Youngs are undoubtedly wealthy. But Isaac is blind. I’m worried Adaline might face challenges once they’re married. Should we consider calling off the wedding with the Youngs?”
My father’s expression soured, and he quickly pulled his hand away from Bria.
“Ridiculous. Haven’t we been embarrassed enough? Waffling like this would tarnish our family’s reputation. Who would ever partner with us then?”
“Yes, Adaline is marrying a blind man, but Isaac’s wealth will surely benefit our family’s business. We must go through with this.”
He handed the platinum card to Bria.
“Use this to get Adaline two stunning wedding dresses. They have to be top-notch, or we’ll be ridiculed.”
Clay cherished his reputation above all else. Despite being swayed by Bria and Neriah, when it came to financial matters, he spared no expense for me.
Neriah sulked, clearly unhappy. She seemed ready to argue, but Bria restrained her. My father hurried off after receiving a phone call, leaving Bria and Neriah in the living room.
Once the door closed, Neriah let her mask slip entirely.
