His Rejection at Altar Choosing Over The Alpha Chapter 4 – A Rooftop, A Stranger, and Something New
I wandered until my heels began to ache.
Somewhere downtown, I climbed the stairs of a building I didn’t recognize. I just wanted height and space. I found both on a quiet rooftop, away from the noise of the pack’s celebration.
The city stretched out before me, twinkling with indifference. The breeze cooled my skin, and for a moment, I closed my eyes.
“Rough night?”
I turned sharply.
A man stood at the other end of the rooftop, leaning against the railing. He was tall, with sharp features and a steady, unreadable gaze.
“I can leave,” he offered, raising his hands slightly.
“No, it’s fine,” I said. “I just needed air.”
He nodded like he understood.
“I’m Callan,” he added.
“Kaitlyn.”
He didn’t pry. We stood in silence for a few minutes, two strangers watching a city that felt too big and too small all at once.
“Is he worth it?” he asked eventually, not looking at me.
I blinked. “Who?”
“The one who made you come up here dressed like that with that look on your face.”
I gave a dry laugh. “Not anymore.”
He finally looked at me. “Good.”
I didn’t know why, but I smiled.
