His Lies My Revenge

His Lies My Revenge Novel Chapter 3

His Lies My Revenge Novel Chapter 3 – I didn’t want to stay there another minute.

I hadn’t slept all night. My mind was a mess of memories—scenes I couldn’t stop replaying, no matter how hard I tried.

As the sun began to rise, Martin got up like he always did and made breakfast.

His voice was laced with confusion. “I didn’t sleep well last night. My body feels off, weak… like I’ve caught something.”

I took a bite of my sandwich and smiled faintly. “Maybe you’re just worn out. You’ve been pouring everything into the case. Martin, about my parents… maybe it’s time to let it go. It’s been five years. I don’t want you draining yourself for something that’s probably never going to change. Maybe we should just stop.”

I caught the flicker of relief in his eyes before he schooled his face into a look of concern. He even forced a gentle smile.

“Jessy, don’t say that. I promised you I’d get to the bottom of it, and I will. I’m not giving up. But thank you… for understanding. It means a lot to me.” He leaned in to kiss me.

But just then, a wave of nausea rolled over me. I barely made it to the bathroom before I was throwing up.

Martin rushed in behind me, eyes lit with something I hadn’t seen in a while—excitement.

“Jessy… are you pregnant?”

I froze.

He didn’t even wait for confirmation. He swept me up and spun me around like we were the stars of some fairytale. “This is amazing! I’m going to be a dad! We’re going to have a baby—our baby!”

He beamed. “Your parents would be so happy. We should visit them soon, share the news. I’ll grab some gifts and come pick you up.”

Before I could respond, he was already on his phone, browsing maternity and baby products.

I glanced at his cart.

That’s when I noticed it—dozens of similar items already saved, buried at the bottom. He hadn’t just started shopping. He’d been planning this.

Worse yet, everything had been bought in pairs.

Once he finished ordering, he seemed to remember I was still standing there.

His smile faltered for a split second, then his tone turned cautious.

“Going back means we’ll probably run into Rachel. We should bring her a small gift too. I’ll pick something out and say it’s from you, alright?”

He paused, then added, “Sweetheart, it’s been five years. Rachel was a victim too. Don’t be so hard on her for taking Mark away. We’re happy now… maybe it’s time to let go of the past.”

I splashed cold water on my face and smiled faintly at my reflection.

“You’re right. Rachel was just a hostage. It’s been five years without any evidence pointing her way. That’s enough to clear her name. I’ll apologize.”

For years, I couldn’t bring myself to be polite to Rachel at family dinners. Martin would always get upset and argue with his family. He even bought us a house away from everyone. Back then, I thought he did it to protect me.

Now, I knew better. He just didn’t want anyone seeing how deeply he still cared about her.

He would protect her at any cost.

This five-year lie… it was time to end it.

As soon as Martin left, I did too. I went straight to a law firm and printed out the divorce papers. While I was there, I asked about reopening my parents’ case.

The lawyer glanced over the evidence I had—photos, mostly—and sighed. “Without more, reopening the case would be nearly impossible. And with the public opinion at the time… no one’s going to believe the daughter of two convicted traitors.”

I left the office in a daze, my feet moving on autopilot.

It wasn’t until I looked up that I realized where I was—right outside Martin’s office.

Inside, his coworkers were gathered, chatting loudly.

“Was that Martin’s wife just now? The one from forensics?”

“She’s gorgeous. Kinda familiar, though…”

“Oh! Wasn’t she the hostage from that international case five years ago?”
