His Lies My Revenge

His Lies My Revenge Novel Chapter 10

His Lies My Revenge Novel Chapter 10 – He made me a promise. But in the end, he still broke it.

The man who once swore he’d never betray me committed the deepest betrayal of all.

My parents had worked as confidential informants for the police for years. His family, knowing the Sward family was innocent and deeply admiring their courage, arranged for me to be engaged to his younger brother.

That decision destroyed all three of us.

He wanted to protect Rachel, protect me, protect the family.

But in the end, he protected no one. Everything was ruined, by his own hands.

As Martin stood there in the chaos of his unraveling life, his mother’s voice pierced through his breakdown like a knife. The cigarette he was holding trembled between his fingers before he flicked it out the door.

“I told you, Jessie isn’t like that! She’s innocent! Don’t ever mention the word divorce to me again!”

His mother froze, stunned. She couldn’t believe her obedient son was standing up to her, for a woman she despised.

“What are you saying? Don’t tell me you’ve actually fallen for that bitch Jessie. She’s a lunatic! Being with her will destroy this entire family!”

Her words stripped away the last of his denial, leaving him no place to hide from the truth.

Martin let out a bitter laugh, his face filled with pain and irony.

Do I love Jessie?

Maybe he did. Probably always had.

And now that he finally had his answer, he didn’t hesitate. He turned around, determined to find her.

But before he could even reach the car, his phone rang. It was Rachel.

He picked up instinctively.

Her voice came through, frantic and tearful. “Martin! Please, help me! Jessie-jie showed up at the hospital. She tried to strangle me, she’s gone crazy! You said you’d protect me, didn’t you? Where are you? I need you. Please come… I’m begging you…”

For a split second, a strange kind of hope flickered in his chest.

She’s still here. Jessie hadn’t left. She hadn’t completely walked away from him.

But that moment of joy vanished, overtaken by cold fury. His voice dropped, steady and sharp.

“Rachel, Jessie would never come for you. Why are you lying?”

Now that he had come to terms with his own feelings, he could finally see Jessie for who she really was, stubborn, proud, and honest to the bone. She held grudges, yes, but she would never resort to petty revenge. If she wanted justice, she’d do it the right way, just like she did with that signed letter of accusation.

Rachel was caught off guard. She hadn’t expected him to question her. “What are you saying? I’m not lying! Jessie already pushed me down the stairs and made me lose the baby, how could she not be here? Why won’t you believe me?”

But Martin was done. For the first time, his voice turned cold, ice sharp and final.

“That’s enough. I know Jessie better than you ever did. You know exactly what you’ve done. I’ve kept quiet out of respect, but don’t test me.”

“I’ve held up my end for five years. I protected you when no one else would. But now that someone’s finally reported the case and a provincial investigator is involved, I can’t help you anymore. You’re on your own.”

“And another thing, your husband is Mark. He’s the one you should be calling. Don’t ever call me again.”

Before she could respond, he ended the call.

If she was truly innocent like she claimed, she wouldn’t need his help, and she’d have nothing to fear from the investigation.

Martin had no time, no energy, and no heart left for her.

Just as he stepped toward his car, his mother, who had overheard the entire call, came storming out, her fury boiling over. She raised her hand, ready to slap him across the face.

“Have you lost your mind? You’re really turning your back on Rachel for her? How did I raise such a disgrace of a son?”

But before her hand could land, Martin caught her wrist mid-air.
