HUECO MUNDO
“Looks like they got beat in the most ostentatious way,” said Shian Sun-sun as she looked at the spectacle in the desert. She was one of the Tres Bestias and had come to the scene late, following Halibel.
Several thousand skull soldiers were mercilessly collapsed on their sides around them, and Rudobon, their creator, had been so horrendously slashed that he was on the verge of death.
“I’ve reattached all your blood vessels and nerves. Now please rest until you
recover your spirit pressure.” Roka Paramia, the recovery master Arrancar who, like the Tres Bestias, had also arrived late, healed Rudobon as he groaned quietly.
“I understand… However, I am full of regret. I cannot believe I have only troubled Lord Halibel and the others and exposed myself in such a shameful manner.”
Emile Apache, another of the Tres Bestias, looked around at Rudobon, then Loly and Menoly who were receiving medical treatment for their identical wounds, and finally at the large beastlike Hollows that had been pulled into the fight and were now collapsed on the ground. She said, “Hah, you’re so pitiful, Rudobon. You let yourself get done in by the surviving Quincies and got yourself beat up by a weird Soul Reaper brat who came traipsing by?”
“Hmph…I cannot deny that even if I wish to.”
Francesca Mila Rose, who was of course another of the Tres Bestias, heard Rudobon’s frustration and said, “Well, in the end Lord Halibel drove them off, didn’t she? Seriously, do the Soul Reapers think so little of Hueco Mundo that they consider it a tourist spot or something?”
Halibel shook her head, a somewhat weary look in her eyes. “I didn’t do it alone. If Grimmjow and Nelliel and even those Quincies hadn’t been here to help, there was a chance we could have all been decimated. We might have been lucky that the Soul Reaper ran away.”
“Huh?! What’re you saying, Lord Halibel? Even if that was a Soul Reaper, there was only one of them! Are you saying that kid was a monster like that flame-wielding old man?!”
Halibel shook her head at Apache’s shocked questioning. “The Soul Reaper’s physical strength and spiritual pressure were definitely on the same level as a Soul Reaper captain. In physical ability alone, that Soul Reaper might compare to the ice guy I fought.”
“So they went out of their way to send a captain here?”
Halibel disagreed with Sun-sun’s suggestion. “No, that Soul Reaper didn’t have enough experience to be a captain. That’s exactly why we were able to find an opening. But I can’t help but be concerned about that zanpaku-to.”
“What kind of zanpaku-to was it?”
Halibel thought about it for a while. Before talking about the zanpaku-to’s shape or nature, she offered this piece of truth. “The Soul Reaper didn’t open the garganta. The zanpaku-to did.”
A slight distance from where Halibel was speaking to her subordinates, Nelliel posed a question to Grimmjow, who was looking at the empty space where the Soul Reaper had disappeared. “Are you sure you’re okay not getting healed by Roka?”
“Huh? This thing’s just a flesh wound.”
Grimmjow, whose arm had been severely gashed, clucked his tongue as he thought back on the battle. “I’ve gotten soft. I lost out on finishing off that Reaper with my resurrección.”
“Yes, who could have known that zanpaku-to would move on its own when it sensed the child was in danger. I clearly saw it open a garganta and drop the kid into it.”
“I don’t get it. What kind of Soul Reaper zanpaku-to moves on its own and uses a garganta?”
Nelliel didn’t seem to have an answer and just said what was on her mind. “The next time that kid comes here, I’m not so sure things will go the same way.”
“Yeah, the kid’ll get stronger with every battle. I don’t mind that, but it was a mistake not to kill them for you guys.”
After snorting with laughter, Grimmjow’s smile disappeared into a serious expression as he recalled his favorite rival. He gnashed his back teeth together. “I don’t want to say this, but that was the same kind of thing Kurosaki is. Just when you think they’re about to die, they’re reborn even stronger.”
“Well, other than that, they don’t seem very similar.”

SOMEWHERE IN THE WORLD OF THE LIVING
In a small country, in the decayed stone remnants of some sort of shine, two Quincies and a corpse were laying low.
“If we were just going to end up doing a runner, wouldn’t it have been easier to run from the start? Hey, Lil, why’d you get involved in the confusion and go out of your way to attack that Soul Reaper?”
Lil answered Gigi’s mocking with her usual poker face. “I wanted to check something. You noticed it too, didn’t you?”
“Yeah, I tried to spurt some blood at that kid, but the zombification didn’t
work. What’s up with that? Was that Soul Reaper as strong as a captain?” “That’s not the only thing I noticed.” Lil remembered the arrow she shot while
the Soul Reaper’s guard was down being cast aside.
“That Reaper didn’t just have an Arrancar’s hierro. The Reaper was using Quincy Blut Vene too.”
“No way?! …Really?”
Blut Vene was an ability specific to the Quincies that allowed them to rapidly increase their defensive abilities by circulating reishi through their veins. Along with Blut Arterie, which increased their attack abilities, it was a foundational technique of the Vandenreich soldiers.
“How could a Soul Reaper use Blut Vene? That’s so unfair! Is it because of that sun pervert?”
“Possibly. He might have fiddled with their bodies. But the real issue is what that Reaper was after.”
“That kid was talking about becoming the Hollows’ king or something.
Maybe someone’s hatching a rebellion like that Aizen guy?” Gigi said whatever came to mind as she patted Bambietta’s head, who closed her eyes as though she were tired.
Lil nodded at that response and, as usual for her, spouted something disturbing with a composed expression. “Maybe our wishes have been answered and the Soul Reapers are slaughtering each other.”
“Maybe we could rescue Candy and Meni while they’re in chaos!”
