After Losing His Memory, He Begged My Forgiveness Novel Chapter 3

After Losing His Memory, He Begged My Forgiveness Novel Chapter 3 – I was coming home with groceries when I saw him.

He was standing outside my apartment building in his hospital gown.

He rushed over to help me with the bags, but I dodged him. He looked hurt, his eyes welling up.

He used to be so clingy, so affectionate. I even gave him a nickname—Samoyed.

John was always smiling, friendly to everyone. But his smiles were brightest for me. He loved being close to me, like a puppy.

Back then, he was so attuned to my every mood. If I didn’t pay him enough attention, he’d get those same sad puppy eyes.

“Lily…” John trailed behind me, keeping pace. “Come back with me. This place is so isolated—no security cameras. It’s not safe!”

But he was the reason I ended up living here. I’d gotten practically nothing in the separation except custody of our daughter. Ironically, they were so disappointed she was a girl that they were happy to let me have her.

I unlocked the door and turned to him. “If you’re not feeling well, go back to the hospital.”

John deflated. “That’s not what I meant…”

I didn’t care what he meant. I rinsed the vegetables and went to pick up my daughter from school.

When we got back, John had made dinner—a whole table full of food. He was beaming at me, waiting for praise. I said nothing.

I took my five-year-old daughter to wash her hands. In the bathroom, she whispered, “Why is he here? Shouldn’t that woman be taking care of him?”

John hadn’t spent much time with her since she was born. He always said he was too busy with work. Over time, they drifted apart. After the whole Melissa situation, she stopped calling him Dad.

I pointed to my head. “He’s sick,” I whispered back. “He might be around a bit more often.”

My daughter pouted. “Why does he have to come here when he’s sick? Doesn’t that woman take care of him?”

Crash. A glass shattered outside. I frowned and glanced out. John was standing in the doorway. He must have heard everything. “Sorry… I dropped a glass,” he mumbled.

I dried my daughter’s hands. “It’s okay. Just clean it up.”

At dinner, John kept trying to join our conversation, but we shut him out. He looked miserable. But I was long past the point of caring.

After dinner, I took my daughter to bed. He cleaned up the kitchen. When I came out, he was looking at me with a pained expression. “Lily, how did it come to this…” He said this was everything he’d ever wanted, but it wasn’t how he’d imagined it. “Why does she hate me so much…” He clutched his hair, his face etched with despair.

Then the doorbell rang. Melissa was here.
