After Losing His Memory, He Begged My Forgiveness Novel Chapter 24 – The Letter
The morning sun filtered in through the curtains as Lily sat at the kitchen table, holding a cup of tea that had gone cold. The apartment was quiet—John had taken their daughter to school, something he’d insisted on doing all week. It had become a new ritual: he made her breakfast, tied her shoelaces, and waited by the school gate until she disappeared inside.
Lily didn’t stop him. She simply watched.
But today, she was waiting for something else—an envelope John had placed in her hand before he left.
He said it was something she needed to read when she was alone.
With hesitant fingers, she broke the seal.
Lily,
By the time you read this, I’ll have already dropped our daughter off at school. I wanted to write this down because every time I try to say it, I mess it up.
You’ve always been the brave one between us. The one who carried everything when I disappeared into my work… or worse, into someone else’s arms. I hate that version of myself. The man who let go of you. Who made our daughter doubt her worth. That man should never have existed.
I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to understand how I lost so much without even noticing it. The truth is, I let myself believe that success meant money and power. But success was always right here, eating dinner with you, tucking our daughter into bed, hearing her call me “Dad” without fear or hesitation.
I don’t expect forgiveness. But I want to earn my place again—if not in your heart, then at least in your life. As a father. As someone who finally understands what really matters.
But if you choose to walk away… I’ll let you go. Not because I want to, but because you deserve peace.
Thank you for loving me once. That love changed everything.
—John
Lily stared at the letter for a long time, eyes burning, hands trembling slightly.
She had told herself for years that she didn’t need closure.
Now, she finally had it.
And yet, it didn’t feel like the end.
It felt like a beginning.
The sound of the front door opening broke her out of her thoughts. Footsteps echoed in the hallway, followed by a small voice shouting, “Mommy! Daddy let me pick the music in the car!”
John followed after her, carrying her backpack and lunchbox, smiling like a man who knew he’d been given a second chance.
Lily met his eyes.
And for the first time, she smiled back.
