After Losing His Memory, He Begged My Forgiveness Novel Chapter 20 – Three Seats at the Recital

The auditorium was packed with parents, chatter, and the rustle of programs. Lily sat in the second row, her phone clenched in one hand, her daughter’s name circled in bright pink on the schedule.

She had helped her daughter rehearse this piece for weeks—every wrong note, every frustrated tear, every triumphant smile when she finally nailed the tricky part.

Today, her little girl was going to play piano in front of strangers. And Lily would be there to cheer her on.

Only this time… they weren’t alone.

The seat on Lily’s right was empty—reserved for her.

The seat on the left?

John slid into it moments before the show started, hair still damp from rushing over, breathing hard like he’d run a marathon just to be there.

He offered her a tentative glance, then placed a small bag on her lap.

Lily blinked. “What’s this?”

“Snacks,” he murmured. “Your favorites. In case you didn’t eat lunch.”

She looked away, jaw clenched tight.

John didn’t push. He simply turned to the stage, eyes forward.

When their daughter walked onstage, pink dress fluttering, Lily sat up straighter. Her little fingers hovered over the keys.

She glanced into the crowd—nervous—and then saw them. Her mom. Her dad. Together.

Her face lit up.

Lily felt her throat tighten.

As the first notes drifted from the stage, Lily realized: this moment mattered. To her daughter, this was more than a recital. It was a wish made real.

Three seats.

Not two.

Not one.

Three.

When the final note echoed and the applause rang out, her daughter stood, bowed deeply, then looked straight at them—both of them—and smiled the way only a child could.

Pure. Unfiltered. Whole.

Later, backstage, their daughter ran up, throwing herself into Lily’s arms. “Did I do okay?”

“You were amazing,” Lily whispered.

John crouched beside them, holding out a tiny bouquet. “I got you pink carnations. You said those were your favorite, right?”

The girl hesitated for a second—then took them.

“Thanks,” she said shyly.

John’s hands trembled a little.

Lily watched the exchange, her heart caught in her throat. This wasn’t forgiveness. Not yet.

But maybe…

It was the beginning of something.
