After Losing His Memory, He Begged My Forgiveness Novel Chapter 2 – I heard John trashed the hospital room after I left. He wouldn’t let anyone near him—unless it was me. It was all so familiar.
Back then, John was just a looked-down-upon illegitimate son. I remembered the first time we met. He was cornered in an alley, beaten and bruised. I saved him. When I offered to call an ambulance, he struggled to his feet, grinning through the pain.
“Beaten to a pulp, but still smiling,” he said. “Thanks.”
He was a mess, but his smile was so genuine, so bright. When he said he didn’t need an ambulance, I instinctively asked why. He chuckled. “I have to… get to my other job.”
I was taken aback. I noticed his clothes were worn and tattered. I took him to the hospital anyway. I paid for his medical bills. He promised to pay me back. “But it might take a while.”
He paid me back in installments over two years. Every month, he’d meet me to give me the money. He’d always bring snacks too—my favorites. I teased him about it once.
“You could have paid off the medical bills way sooner if you hadn’t spent all this money on snacks.”
He scratched his head. “It’s not the same…”
“How so?”
“It’s interest.”
It was the first time I saw shyness on his usually carefree face. It was also the first time I felt my heart race like that.
We got closer after that. There was a definite spark, but we never crossed the line—until one day, John was all over the news. The media exposed him as the illegitimate son of the Jameson family. He and his mother were subjected to relentless public shaming. He was called a bastard, a disgrace. His mother had a heart attack and ended up in the hospital.
It was the darkest time of John’s life. I stood by him, helped him weather the storm. I used my family’s influence to smooth things over online, to bring his life back to normal. That’s when he confessed his feelings for me.
I asked him if he was only interested in me because of my family. He shook his head. “I just want to be with you… Lily, you can reject me now, but I’ll prove my love to you one day.”
He started working even harder, juggling his job and his startup. He was exhausted, but he always found time to visit me at school, bringing gifts and surprises. I saw his effort, his dedication. It was impossible not to be moved.
I secretly asked my dad to give him a few business leads. With the first big money he earned, John bought me a diamond ring and proposed. I accepted.
After graduation, I went against my family’s wishes and joined John in building his business. At first, we went to meetings and networked together. As the company grew, I shifted to a behind-the-scenes role. I learned to cook for him, took care of him, and looked after his mom, who had a heart condition. When John’s older half-brother made things difficult for him, I’d stay up late helping him find solutions.
He held me close one day and said, “Lily, I can’t imagine… how miserable I’d be without you.”
He was very attached to me—so attached that when he was hospitalized, even a short trip home for me sent him into a frenzy. He wouldn’t let anyone near him when I wasn’t there. Just like now, with his amnesia.
But no matter how similar, things could never go back to the way they were. No matter how much he fussed that day, I didn’t go to the hospital.
But his mother, bless her heart, couldn’t bear to see her son so distressed. The next day, she came to see me. She danced around the issue of my daughter’s custody, hinting at what she might do if I didn’t cooperate.
“We’re both mothers. We should understand each other! It’s not a big ask. Just visit him once a day. Once he gets his memory back, he won’t bother you anymore.”
She always thought her requests were reasonable. When I gave birth to a girl, she’d made snide comments for a whole year—said girls were useless, refused to even meet her granddaughter. I didn’t have a second child. She blamed me for that too, said I was ending their family line.
I was tired. I didn’t want to complicate things further.
So i agreed, just to appease her.
I didn’t except John to show up at my doorstep.
