After Losing His Memory, He Begged My Forgiveness Novel Chapter 13 – Second Chances Come at a Price

The days that followed were quiet—but not peaceful.

John stayed in the guest room. He cooked breakfast, helped with school runs, washed dishes, and folded laundry. It was like watching a stranger step into a familiar role, fumbling with memories that didn’t quite fit.

Lily observed it all from a careful distance. She wasn’t ready to forgive him, not yet. But part of her couldn’t ignore the small, soft changes in him—the way he gently braided their daughter’s hair in the morning, or how he always knocked twice before entering a room.

“I don’t expect anything from you,” he told her one night, his voice low as they both cleaned the kitchen. “I just want to be useful until I remember everything—or until you kick me out.”

Lily didn’t respond. She didn’t know how to.

But that night, she didn’t lock her bedroom door.

At work, things weren’t so calm.

Melissa had resigned from Jameson Corp, but not before leaving behind a mess. Her final act of spite included leaking confidential documents, causing delays in three major projects. John’s absence from the office didn’t help.

He tried to return—tried to walk into the boardroom like nothing had changed—but the tension was thick. The executives looked at him with uncertainty, like they didn’t know who they were dealing with anymore: the sharp, cold CEO… or this gentler, softer version.

Lily went with him that day.

She hadn’t stepped into the Jameson Corp headquarters since the divorce proceedings began, but when John asked, she couldn’t say no.

She wore the suit he used to love—navy, clean lines, no frills. Her heels clicked against marble floors as if she had never left.

At the meeting, when the CFO hesitated to share sensitive updates, John nodded at Lily. “She stays. She knows this company better than anyone.”

No one argued.

She spoke with authority, dissecting the financial reports, identifying gaps, suggesting fixes. John sat quietly beside her, only chiming in when necessary. For once, he let her lead.

Afterward, in the elevator, he turned to her. “You were amazing in there.”

“I know,” Lily replied, brushing dust off her blazer. “You should’ve listened to me five years ago.”

He smiled faintly. “I’m listening now.”

At home, their daughter had started drawing pictures again.

Stick figures—one tall, one medium, one small. All holding hands. All smiling.

John cried the first time he saw one on the fridge.

Lily didn’t.

She simply moved it a little higher, so it wouldn’t fall off.

But peace was never meant to last.

One evening, after dinner, Lily’s phone buzzed with a new message.

Unknown Number:
You think he’s changed? He hasn’t.
Check your email. – M.

She frowned and opened her laptop. An email with no subject line sat in her inbox.

Attached was a video file.

She clicked play—and froze.

The screen filled with footage from an office. A hidden camera view.

John. In a room. With Melissa.

And then—

Her stomach dropped.

It was dated three weeks before the accident.

Before he lost his memory.

Before any of this began.
