After Losing His Memory, He Begged My Forgiveness Novel Chapter 10 – Melissa’s Ultimatum

Just as Lily began to believe the tide might be turning, Melissa showed up again—this time not with fake tears, but with venom in her eyes and bitterness in her voice.

She cornered Lily outside her building, a pair of oversized sunglasses hiding half her face. Her lips curled into a cold smile.

“So this is your idea of revenge? Playing the long game while pretending to be the saint?”

Lily raised an eyebrow. “I’m not pretending anything.”

“Oh, please.” Melissa scoffed. “You think a few bedtime stories will magically undo what he and I had?”

Lily didn’t answer. She didn’t need to.

Melissa took a step closer. “Let me guess—he cried, apologized, looked at you with those sad puppy eyes? Classic John. You’ll fall for it again, and he’ll just leave you again.”

Lily’s hands curled into fists at her sides.

“You’re scared, aren’t you?” Melissa pressed. “Scared that if he remembers everything… he might go back to me.”

That hit something Lily didn’t want to admit. Not out loud.

But she kept her voice even. “If he goes back to you, that’s his choice. And it’ll just prove I was right to let go in the first place.”

Melissa tilted her head mockingly. “So noble. So above it all.”

Then her voice dropped low, ice-cold. “But I won’t let you win. He’s mine. Always was. I gave up everything for him. You think I’ll let some little sob story reunion tear that apart?”

Lily met her gaze calmly. “You already lost him, Melissa. The moment you let pride and ambition matter more than people.”

Melissa’s smile twitched—just slightly. “We’ll see.”

And with that, she turned and walked off, heels clacking with spite.

That evening, Lily found John sitting in the hallway outside her door again. He looked exhausted.

“She came to see me,” he said as soon as Lily opened the door.

Lily said nothing.

“She said… I loved her once,” he added softly, as if still trying to believe it. “She showed me photos. Messages. I don’t know if they’re real or fake. But…”

His voice broke. “If they are real, then I was a terrible husband. An even worse father.”

Lily leaned against the doorframe. “So what are you going to do?”

“I don’t know,” he whispered. “But I know who I want to be now.”

He looked up at her, eyes vulnerable but steady. “And it’s not the man I became. It’s the man I used to be—when I loved you like my life depended on it.”

Later that night, Lily sat on the couch long after her daughter had gone to bed, John’s words echoing through her mind.

And for the first time in a long time… she didn’t feel anger.

She felt fear.

Because maybe… just maybe… she still loved him too.
