A voice called from outside. It sounded like Audrey. Remy stepped out of the kitchen, still wearing his apron.
“You’re busy-I’ll go see what she wants,” Elisa said, setting down the remote control. “She probably saw the lights on and figured you were home, so she’s calling you over for dinner.” By now, her family had probably already started eating.
Elisa grabbed a bag of snacks and walked outside while munching on them. “Mom?”
Audrey called out, “Elisa? You’re home too? Why didn’t you come over for dinner? We’re eating right now. Hurry up and tell Remy to come over-your grandpa Jimenez was just saying he hasn’t seen him in days!”
Remy had been busy entertaining clients lately, leaving little time to visit his in- laws for dinner. Elisa smiled. “Mom, I want to eat Remy’s cooking tonight, so we’re staying in. You guys go ahead without us.”
“Oh, come on, sweetheart! It’s late, and you’re still making him cook? He’s been working all day. He should be coming home to a hot meal, not having to make one himself!
Audrey’s voice carried a motherly scolding tone, full of concern for her son-in-law. Elisa giggled, sticking out her tongue playfully, though her mother couldn’t see her expression.
“Mom, I have good news for you.” “Oh? Jasmine had her baby, right? Both mother and child are safe—I already heard the news.”
The Sox family might not be wealthy, but Jasmine had married into the influential Bucham family. Josh Bucham and Julian Bucham were cousins, and Josh had been working at York Corporation for years. In Wiltspoon’s business world, he was well known.

Of course, Audrey knew all about it. She had already prepared an elaborate gift and planned to visit Jasmine in the hospital first thing tomorrow morning.
Elisa and Jasmine were close friends, and with Josh being connected to Zachary —who was married to Audrey’s niece-the Buchams and the Stones had a strong bond.
Audrey had once believed Julian was serious about pursuing Elisa, which almost led his father to propose marriage. But those days were long past.
Elisa beamed. “Mom, guess what? Remy and I just got back from the hospital. We saw Jasmine, and she’s doing great. The baby is absolutely adorable!”
