Moonborn Heir

Moonborn Heir Novel Chapter 39

Moonborn Heir Novel Chapter 39 – Heat rises to my cheeks, but I refuse to let it show. “Cleverness is a necessity,” I reply evenly.

“Especially when representing a pack like Shadow Ridge.” Our verbal sparring continues, each word a dance, each exchange charged with unspoken
tension. I don’t miss the way his gaze lingers on me, the way his smile grows with each response I give.

It’s unsettling, the way he looks at me—not with disrespect, but with intrigue, as though I’m a puzzle he’s eager to solve. Before I can respond to his last remark, Kael’s voice cuts through the air, commanding and strong. “Everyone, please take your seats.”

The crowd shifts, and I step away from Lucian, my heart still pounding. As I make my way to my seat beside Kael, I glance back once, finding Lucian’s eyes still on me. The meeting begins with Kael’s proposal. His words are precise, passionate, laying out his vision for uniting the packs under one banner.

I watch the room carefully, noting the nods of agreement from many Alphas—especially Damian Duskbane of Crescent Moon, who offers his vocal support. But Lucian remains silent, his expression unreadable.

Finally, when Kael finishes, Lucian stands, his movements slow and deliberate as he addresses the room. “The vision you’ve presented is… ambitious,” he says, his voice calm but edged with skepticism. “But ambition isn’t enough. Shadow Ridge’s values may not align with those of every pack here. I’m not ready to tie Darkfang’s fate to this—yet.”

Kael’s jaw tightens, but he nods curtly. “Your hesitation is noted, Alpha Blackwood. But I believe time will show you the value of what I’m offering.”
Lucian inclines his head slightly, his dark eyes flicking briefly to me before he sits.

The meeting ends with no resolution, the tension thick as the Alphas disperse. Kael’s fury radiates off him as he stalks out, and I feel the weight of Lucian’s gaze one last time before he disappears into the crowd.

The moon casts a pale light through the windows of the Governor’s Mansion, its silver glow spilling across the room as I pace near the hearth, my hands clenched at my sides. My wolf growls restlessly in my chest, echoing the storm in my mind.

“Who does Lucian Blackwood think he is?” I snap, my voice low but sharp. “To undermine me like that. In front of everyone.” Talia watches me from the settee, her expression calm, but I can see the worry flickering in her eyes. She sits poised, her hands folded neatly in her lap, but the way her fingers twist together betrays her unease.

“Kael,” she says softly, her voice gentle but firm, “you need to breathe. This isn’t the end.” I whirl to face her, frustration coursing through me. “It might as well be. Without Darkfang’s support, the other packs will hesitate. Lucian’s skepticism could unravel everything I’ve worked for.”

Her eyes meet mine, steady and unwavering despite the fire in my voice. “One wolf’s doubt doesn’t define your vision,” she says simply.
I let out a frustrated growl, raking a hand through my hair. “He’s not just one wolf, Talia. He’s Lucian Blackwood. Darkfang is powerful—too powerful to dismiss. If he refuses to align with us,
the others will see it as a weakness. They’ll question my strength.”

Talia rises from her seat, crossing the room to stand in front of me. Her presence is grounding, her scent soothing even as I fight against my wolf’s restless agitation. She places a hand on my arm, her touch light but firm. “You’re stronger than this, Kael,” she says softly. “I know you are. The pack knows you are. But you can’t let anger cloud your judgment. If you let this consume you, you’ll lose sight of who you are.”

Her words hit like a strike, and I pause, my jaw tightening as I meet her gaze. “And who am I, Talia?” I ask, my voice low. She smiles faintly, her hand sliding down my arm to entwine her fingers with mine. “You’re the Alpha who united this pack after the War of Fangs. The Alpha who has a vision for a better
future—not just for Shadow Ridge, but for all the packs. Stay true to that, Kael. Don’t let Lucian’s arrogance change you.”

The fire in her voice tempers the storm in my chest, and I feel my wolf settle slightly, soothed by her presence. She steps closer, her other hand rising to rest against my cheek, her thumb brushing lightly over my skin.

“As long as you stay true to yourself,” she continues, her voice a whisper now, “your vision will come to pass. I believe in you, Kael. I always have.”

Her touch, her words, the steady conviction in her eyes—it all seeps into me, calming the restless energy that’s been gnawing at my soul since the meeting. I exhale slowly, my shoulders relaxing as the tension begins to fade. “You’re the only one who can do that,” I murmur, my voice softening as I wrap an arm around her waist, pulling her closer.

Her lips curve into a small smile, and she tilts her head slightly, her fingers trailing down to rest against my chest. “That’s my job, isn’t it? To keep you grounded?”

“It’s more than that,” I reply, my voice deepening. “You’re my anchor, Talia. My everything.” Her smile widens slightly, but there’s a flicker of something in her eyes—an understanding, a quiet strength that has always drawn me to her. And in this moment, with the weight of the day pressing down on me, I feel it again. That pull, that need, that undeniable connection.

I lean in, pressing my forehead against hers, breathing in her scent as my hands trail down her back, pulling her impossibly closer. “You have no idea how much I need you,” I murmur, my lipsbrushing against hers, barely a whisper of a touch.

Her breath hitches, and her hands slide up to grip my shoulders. “Show me,” she whispers, her voice trembling slightly but filled with trust.

Something in me snaps, the restraint I’ve been holding onto breaking as my lips crash against hers. The kiss is deep, consuming, filled with everything I’ve been holding back—the frustration, the need, the love that only she can bring out in me. I lift her easily, her legs wrapping around my waist as I carry her to the bedroom, the world narrowing to just the two of us. Her hands are in my hair, her lips warm and eager against mine, and every touch, every kiss, fans the fire growing between us.

When we reach the bed, I lay her down gently, my hands moving to unlace her dress with deliberate slowness. She watches me, her eyes dark and filled with a mix of desire and something deeper, something that makes my chest tighten.

“Kael,” she murmurs, her voice barely audible, and the sound of my name on her lips sends a shiver through me.

I lean down, my lips trailing along her neck, her collarbone, her shoulders, as my hands explore the curves of her body. Every touch is deliberate, every kiss a vow, and the way she responds—her soft gasps, the way her body arches toward me—fuels the fire inside me.

“Talia,” I murmur against her skin, my voice rough with emotion. “You’re everything to me. You always have been.” Her hands slide over my chest, her touch igniting sparks that burn hotter with every moment. When she finally pulls me down, her lips finding mine again, I let myself fall completely, giving her everything, claiming her as mine in every way.

THE NEXT MORNING

The morning light filters through the windows of my office as I sift through a pile of papers on my desk, my mind still lingering on the events of last night. Talia’s warmth, her words, her touch—they had steadied me, reminded me of who I am. But now, in the cold light of day, the weight of Lucian’s rejection presses down again. My wolf is restless, pacing inside me, snarling at the memory of Lucian Blackwood’s defiance.

A sharp knock sounds at the door, and before I can answer, Sabrina sweeps in, her heels clicking against the polished floor. She doesn’t wait for permission to enter—she never does. Her lips are curled into a smirk, her green eyes sharp and calculating.

“Good morning, Alpha,” she says smoothly, closing the door behind her with an air of finality. “Or should I say, not so good?” I stiffen, my jaw clenching as I lean back in my chair, folding my arms across my chest. “What do you want, Sabrina?”
