Moonborn Heir Novel Chapter 14 – I wake slowly, my body wrapped in warmth, the ache in my muscles softened by the presence
beside me. The morning light filters through the window, casting golden rays across the room, illuminating everything with a gentle glow.
I feel Lucian’s warmth at my side, his arm draped over me in a protective, possessive embrace. The weight of his hand is grounding, his touch sending
a soft current through me that I can feel in every nerve, every pulse.
I reach down, placing my hand over my stomach, feeling the faint stirrings of life within me. A quiet sense of awe fills me, mingling with a fierce protectiveness. The life growing inside me isn’t just my own. It’s the child of The Prophecy, the Moonborn Heir.
And it’s not just mine anymore — it’s bound to Lucian as well, as if our fated bond was meant to protect this child, to guard it against every threat, every darkness that might come.
I glance over at Lucian, and my breath catches. In the morning light, he looks almost unreal, his features softened yet strong, his dark lashes casting shadows across his cheeks. He’s beautiful, in a raw, fierce way that takes my breath away.
His strength is palpable, his presence commanding, even in sleep. This is the man who has claimed me, the Alpha who rescued me from desolation, the mate who saw strength in me when my spirit was nearly broken. He has lifted me up and breathed new life into my soul.
The bond between us feels like fate, a connection that runs deeper than I ever imagined. As if sensing my gaze, Lucian’s eyes flutter open. They’re deep, piercing eyes that seem to see straight into me, and a slow, gentle smile curves his lips.
He reaches over, his hand brushing softly along my cheek, his touch warm and reverent, like he’s savoring this quiet moment with me. “Good morning, Luna,” he murmurs, his voice rough with sleep but filled with a tenderness that makes my heart stutter. His hand moves down, resting over mine on my stomach, his thumb grazing the faint curve there, and I see something fierce and protective in his eyes. “How do you feel?”
I swallow, my throat tight with emotion. “I feel…different. Stronger.” I hesitate, searching for the right words. “It’s like everything I’ve gone through has led me to this moment. To you.” Lucian’s gaze softens, and he leans in, pressing a gentle kiss to my forehead. “I’m honored to have you by my side, Talia.
As my mate…and as our Luna.” His thumb traces a small circle over my stomach. “Are you ready to stand beside me? To be presented to the pack as the Luna of Darkfang?” I nod, my chest swelling with a mix of pride and trepidation. “Yes,” I whisper, the word barely more than a breath, but it holds all the conviction I feel.
I reach up, cupping his face, letting my thumb brush over his jawline, feeling the strength there, the steady, unbreakable will that I know will protect us both. He pulls me close, pressing one last lingering kiss to my lips, a silent promise, before he stands and offers his hand. I take it, letting him help me out of bed, his hand a steady presence in mine, grounding me.
We dress in silence, a ritualistic calm settling over us, each movement deliberate, almost sacred. I fasten my cloak, feeling the weight of it settle over my shoulders, a tangible reminder of the role I’m stepping into. Together, we leave the cabin, stepping out into the dawn, hand-in-hand. Lucan’s grip is firm,
reassuring, and as we walk through the grounds, I feel the weight of every gaze turning toward us, every head lifting to watch as we pass.
They know. Somehow, they all know what’s happened, that Lucian and I have completed the bond, that I am their Luna now, bound to him in every way. Wolves stop in their tracks, their eyes widening, a ripple of awareness spreading through the pack. Some of them bow instinctively, their heads dipping in respect, a gesture that sends a shiver through me. I’m not just Talia anymore. I’m their Luna. Their leader.
And as I walk beside Lucian, I feel the pride and responsibility settle over me, a weight I’m ready to bear. We reach the main hall, and Lucian pushes open the doors, guiding me inside. The room falls silent, every wolf turning to face us, their expressions a mix of reverence, curiosity, and, in some cases, awe. Lucian’s hand remains on the small of my back, a grounding force as he leads me down the center of the room.
“Bow to your Luna,” he commands, his voice resonating through the hall, powerful and unwavering. There’s no question, no hesitation. The wolves drop to one knee, their heads bowed in submission.
It’s an overwhelming sight, the power and loyalty of the pack focused entirely on me, and for a moment, I feel a pang of uncertainty, wondering if I can live up to the expectations in their eyes. But then I feel Lucian’s touch, the quiet strength he lends me, and I straighten, letting his confidence flow through me. These wolves, this pack — they are mine, as much as I am theirs.
Together, we are bound, and I will fight for them, protect them, as fiercely as I would my own blood. Everyone bows…everyone except Cade. I catch his gaze in the corner of the hall, his eyes hard, unyielding. He doesn’t move, doesn’t lower his head.
His defiance is clear, a silent challenge that makes my skin prickle with unease. Lucian notices too, his jaw tightening, but he doesn’t acknowledge Cade’s insolence. Not here. Not now. Instead, he draws me closer, murmuring, “He’ll learn respect, Talia. Or he’ll face the consequences.”
We take our seats at the head of the table, a grand breakfast spread out before us, and the noise in the hall slowly returns as the pack begins to eat, glancing up at us with a mixture of reverence and curiosity. I glance across the table at Rhea, my closest confidante, my only family here, and her face is tight with worry.
“Are you out of your mind?” she hisses, leaning forward, her voice laced with an edge of accusation. “Talia, what about the child?” Her words pierce me, a reminder of the secret I carry, the reason I fled Shadow Ridge in the first place.
For a moment, doubt creeps in, but I steady myself, meeting her gaze with conviction. “The child is fine, Rhea. He’s accepted Lucian. I’ve accepted Lucian.”
Rhea’s eyes flash, her fingers gripping the edge of her cup. “You don’t know that, Talia. You
can’t know. The Moonborn Heir is too important, too…delicate. Do you really think the child can just bond with Lucian without consequence?”
I shake my head, my voice soft but firm. “Lucian is his protector now. He’ll keep both of us safe. I know he will.”
Rhea’s expression tightens, a flicker of hurt mixed with frustration. “And what about Cade?” I ask, desperate to change the subject, to shift the tension between us. “You’re spending too much time with him, Rhea. He’s not to be trusted.”
She glares at me, disbelief and anger flaring in her eyes. “Don’t be a hypocrite, Talia. You’ve given yourself to an Alpha you barely know, and you’re questioning my judgment?” Her words sting, sharper than I want to admit. We stare at each other, a silent battle simmering between us.
She’s right, a part of me knows it. I’ve put everything on Lucian, given him my trust, my heart, and now I’m demanding Rhea to follow my lead, to fall in line. But her defiance grates against my authority, her doubt like a thorn I can’t shake.
“I’m not being a hypocrite,” I snap, the words coming out harsher than I intend. “This is different. Lucian…he’s my mate. He’s the one who — ” I falter, the depth of my conviction mingling with something I can’t explain. Rhea shakes her head, her face softening, her worry still evident. “Just…be careful, Talia,” she says, her tone quieter, almost pleading. “You’re not just risking yourself anymore. You’re risking him. You’re risking everything.”
Her words linger, twisting through my thoughts, even as I try to brush them off. She’s right, and I know it, but I can’t show weakness now. Not here, not when all of Darkfang is watching, waiting for me to fail. Lucian’s hand finds mine under the table, his grip firm and reassuring.
He leans close, his breath warm against my ear. “You are strong, Talia,” he murmurs. “They will see it. They will follow you.”
I nod, letting his words steady me, but Rhea’s warning lingers, a quiet whisper of doubt I can’t quite silence.
