The air is thick with tension, each step taking us farther from Shadow Ridge, when suddenly a commanding figure steps out from the shadows, blocking our path. I gasp, as his glimmering dark eyes bore down on me, and a tingle runs up my spine. I recognize him instantly, as if I’ve known him my entire life.
Tall, muscular, radiating strength, with intense dark eyes that pierce into my soul Alpha Lucian Blackwood. Even in the moonlight, his presence is magnetic, his gaze sharp and assessing. “What are you doing in my territory?” His voice is low, dangerous, each word heavy with Alpha authority. His dark eyes narrow as they roam over me.
My pulse stutters as I take him in – broad-shouldered, powerful, and so unapologetically commanding. There’s a magnetism in his gaze that pulls at something deep inside me, something I’d rather ignore. Yet, even as I feel the undeniable pull, a chill settles over me.

I lift my chin, refusing to be intimidated. “Just passing through.”
A slow smirk tugs at the corner of his mouth, his gaze darkening with intrigue. “A runaway from an Alpha,” he says, the words laced with a dangerous fascination that makes my pulse quicken. “Interesting.”
My resolve wavers under his scrutiny, but I force myself to stand tall. “I don’t belong to anyone.”
Lucian chuckles, a dark, unsettling sound. “Is that so?” His eyes flick over me, calculating. “I could offer you sanctuary,” he murmurs, his voice dipping low, “but it comes at a price.”
My breath catches. “What price?”
“Loyalty,” he says simply, his gaze fierce, possessive. “To me. When the time comes.”
Lucian’s gaze sharpens as he studies me, taking in my scent, my defiance, my determination. “Shadow Ridge scent. Kael’s pack,” he says, his tone hardening. “What is a Shadow Ridge wolf doing out here…alone?”
His eyes bore into me, assessing, lingering just long enough to send heat rising to my cheeks. I fight the urge to look away. I don’t owe him anything – not explanations, not deference. Yet, his gaze holds me captive, demanding something I’m not willing to give.
Without warning, he leans in, close enough that I can feel the warmth radiating from his body, and inhales deeply. His nostrils flare slightly, his expression shifting as he catches my scent.
“Your scent…” he murmurs, a hint of intrigue lacing his tone. “It’s laced heavily with Kael. You were his Luna, weren’t you?”
I don’t respond, don’t deny it, and his eyes glint with satisfaction, as though my silence has confirmed everything he suspected.
