Even though her mother thought they were useless, she still helped them make money while she was alive. Kathryn guessed they were worth tens of millions, if not hundreds of millions.
With that kind of money, how could they complain about being poor? What could they possibly be worried about? Still, if Kathryn didn’t take control of the Farrell family, her brothers might not survive in Jensburg.
They weren’t capable and had always relied on the Farrell Group and their mother’s protection. But with new leadership, no one would shield them anymore, and the Farrell Group wouldn’t let them behave as they pleased.
Even if Kathryn took charge, she wouldn’t allow the Farrell Group to cover for her brothers. Plus, Audrey’s side of the family had always been at odds with theirs. Whether Audrey or Liberty took control, her brothers would have a hard time.
If they were smart, they’d sell off their assets, turn them into cash, and leave Jensburg. That way, they could still keep some of their wealth. If not, they’d end up with nothing and might even be forced to live on the streets.
Kathryn wasn’t feeling generous enough to constantly support her brothers. She wasn’t going to sacrifice herself for them.
“Why compare yourself to ordinary people? You’re special!” Holden urged. He didn’t want to let go of his wife’s wealth and wanted to fight for his sons. Softening his tone, he said, “Kathryn, I know you’re kind. You feel like your mother made mistakes.
Sure, she wasn’t perfect, but she was still your mother. “If she knew what you were doing, she’d be furious. You’ve got so many nieces and nephews. What if your brothers run out of money? You know they’re not very capable, so don’t act rashly.
“Audrey’s family and the others aren’t short on money. Audrey is married into the Stone family, which is second only to the York family in Wiltspoon. Liberty’s sister is the eldest lady of the York family, the richest in Wiltspoon, worth hundreds of billions.
“They’re all wealthier than our Farrell Group. They won’t even care about the little compensation you offer. And do you really think they’ll forgive your mother just because you give them money?
“Kathryn, you and they are enemies. There will never be peace. Audrey’s mother was killed by your mother, and Audrey and her family forced your mother’s death. Your parents and their family are sworn enemies.
“So why be soft-hearted? They won’t appreciate it.” Holden handed Kathryn a cup. “Pour some water for your dad. I’ve talked so much, and now I’m thirsty.”
Kathryn poured him a cup of warm water without complaint. As she did, she overheard him calling Marco. She didn’t care.
What could he tell Marco? Marco didn’t have the authority to make decisions for her. Until Audrey or Liberty took over, Kathryn was in charge of the Farrell family.
