The child had Cardiffian features and dark hair. From a distance, he looked like a Cheaian. The boy was dirty and looked like a beggar in his ragged clothes. Daryl was surprised. How come a beggar was here? How did he slip into such a heavily guarded place?
While she was lost in thoughts, the boy hunched and growled like an animal. His face was young, but his eyes were so fierce as if he was going to tear her into pieces. “Don’t be afraid, I mean you no harm. What’s your name? What are you doing here?“ she said in a hurry.
The boy gave no response and prepared to attack. Daryl thought for a moment, took out a piece of chocolate from her pocket, and spread her palm. His eyes glowed the moment he saw the chocolate. Still, he glared at her in a way as if he was going to drive her away.
Aware of his hunger, she put the chocolate on the ground. After a moment of hesitation, the boy picked it up and ran off. Before leaving, he looked back at her and soon disappeared. Daryl backtracked and heard people talking. “Where’s he? Did you find him?”
“No, that damn brat!” “Find him as soon as possible. You’ll be in trouble if the young lady finds out.” “Yes, sir.” She heard rustles, and the footsteps trailed away. She didn’t come out until she confirmed that she was there alone.
Looking in the direction where they left, she thought for a moment, took her eyes back, and went back to her companions. Terry led Lucia and August to another garden. The afternoon tea had been spread out on the table.
They took their seats and chatted. Intentionally or unintentionally, Terry tried to get more information about them although he had
grasped some. Knowing more about them was necessary since he was going to bring Marlena down through Joe.
Lucia and August saw through his intention. Their cooperation was seamless and flawless. While they were chatting, someone rushed over and whispered something into Terry’s ear. The latter changed color, excused himself, and hurried away.
Only something major would perturb him like that. If the situation permitted, Lucia would follow him over for a look. Not long after Terry was gone, Daryl came back under the guidance of a servant. Lucia glanced at her, frowned, and asked in a hurry. Are you all right?”
Her clothes were scratched and stained with mud. Daryl waved her hand to indicate that she was fine and then sat down beside Lucia.
Lucia grabbed her hand, looked at the scrape, and asked with concern, What
happened?”
Daryl had a sip of coffee and replied, “I’m okay. It’s just a scratch. Guess who I
came across? A strange child.”
