Submit To The Boss Lucia And August Novel Chapter 803 – An Unexpected Surprise
Burton knew both Daryl and Eliot were staying at People’s Hospital so he immediately turned the car around. Lucia heard Paula’s cheerful laughter in the hallway and entered the ward, which smelt faintly of sterile water.
Daryl was bed being fed by Paula on the reclining bed. Although her face was still pale, she looked much better than before. When she saw Lucia and August, she said apologetically, “Paula said you guys just got back from Sonirie. Why didn’t you go home and get some rest first?”
“Nothing is more important than you waking up,” Lucia said with a smile as she put the flowers in the vase. She looked around and asked curiously, “Why isn’t Paul here?” “Maybe he’s busy at work. It doesn’t matter,” Daryl explained softly with a smile. ‘
Maybe it doesn’t matter to him whether I wake u or not. He won’t come to visit me.’ A glint of frustration passed across Daryl’s face, but she quickly gave a soft smile. Paul winked at Lucia to remind her not to mention it.
Then she excused herself to go to the bathroom and pulled Lucia out into the hallway. The ward immediately went quiet. August just stood there with a poker face. Daryl didn’t seem to mind his indifferent attitude. She said softly, “I know you and Lucia are tired these days.
I’m fine. Just take her home and get some rest.” August didn’t say anything. He remembered the first time he saw Daryl, she was
chatting with Lucia with a happy smile on her face, but now she was sickly.
He knew Lucia cared about Daryl and that Daryl had probably been injured because of Lucia, or Paul wouldn’t have warned him earlier. With this in mind, August glanced at Daryl’s pale face, frowned subconsciously, and asked seriously, “Do you remember what happened?”
Daryl hadn’t expected him to ask that. She froze and frowned too. “I just remember a virtual number texting me that day to go to the roof…” she stumbled because she couldn’t remember clearly. August interrupted her immediately, You don’t look like a gullible woman.”
Daryl nodded solemnly. “I didn’t go, but a few hours later, I got another message
mentioning Paul. I went to the roof and then I was pushed straight off the roof.”
Her voice trailed away and she looked in a lot of pain.
August became even more suspicious. He walked forward, stared into Daryl’s
eyes, and questioned her, “The person who sent you the message has Paul’s
secret and you know what it is, right?”
Daryl glanced at him, averted her eyes quickly, and whispered, “I’m sorry I can’t
tell you that.”
“That’s enough,” August’s cold voice echoed in the room.
Daryl subconsciously gripped the plain white sheets, her heart pounding, for fear
he would ask another question.
At the same time, the two women were talking in the hallway.
“What’s wrong with Paul? Didn’t he care about Daryl the other day? Why didn’t
he come to see her?” Lucia asked Paula, puzzled.
“Paul just left.” Paula couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “Daryl had just woken up
when he left. She didn’t know he’d been with her. She thought she’d been
dreaming.”
“Then why did he…”
Paula gave a mysterious smile. “He didn’t want to look scruffy in front of Daryl
and went home to change his clothes.” Just then, the elevator stopped. Paula
gestured for Lucia to turn her head and teased, “There might be an unexpected
surprise.”
Lucia turned her head and saw Paul, dressed in a suit, step out of the elevator.
He looked very serious and he was holding red roses instead of flowers for
patients.
The two women looked at each other and followed him excitedly to the ward.
Daryl was still nervous and bewildered when Paul appeared at the door. Then
she suddenly realized something and her pale face turned slightly red.
Paul walked slowly over to her, handed her the roses, and explained softly,
“Sorry I’m late. I went back to change.”
“It’s okay.” Daryl took the roses with a smile, a little nervous. “I’m happy you’re
here.”
Lucia and Paula looked at each other. ‘So that’s it?’
Paula couldn’t resist pushing Paul and said in a low voice through her gritted
teeth, “Daryl’s awake now. Get to the point.”
“Stupid man,” Lucia echoed.
Hearing them whispering, Paul cleared his throat, took a small square box out of
his pocket, and handed it directly to Daryl.
The wooden box was carved with delicate flowers, but it didn’t look like a ring
box. Everyone was confused.
Daryl didn’t take it. “This is…”
Paul slowly opened the box. Inside was an exquisite jade bracelet. He said very
seriously, “It’s been passed down in my family for generations. Only the eldest
daughter-in-law can have it, but I’m the only one in my generation.”
“A family heirloom,” Daryl said slowly, looking blankly at the wooden box, “Thank
you, but I can’t accept something so valuable.”
Paul looked into her eyes with a gentle look in his eyes. “From now on, you’re its
owner and the only daughter-in-law in the Thomas family.” “I won’t accept it.
Please take it back,” Daryl replied coldly.
