Submit To The Boss Lucia And August Novel Chapter 540 – I Underestimated You!
“What happened to your legs, August?” Jeanne paused and then rushed forward again.
She looked at August, with her tears falling like beads on a broken thread. “August! Your legs…” She reached out to take August’s hand, but he gently pushed her hand away.
Jeanne squatted down and looked at his legs, crying and gasping, “I thought you really died… I was so heartbroken… If I hadn’t
heard the news later, I think.
I think I would have gone with you…” Her face was much thinner than before and covered with tears, looking pitiful.
However, August didn’t have any other expressions in his wheelchair. He didn’t move as he watched her cry and then signaled to Burton to give her some tissues.
Seeing Jeanne wipe her tears with the tissues, he said slowly, “All right, now that you’ve seen me, just go back. This is not the place for you to stay.”
“No, I want to stay with you. You haven’t told me what you’ve been through these days. August, I’d like to stay and take care of you…”
Jeanne raised her head. As she said that, she suddenly felt something and subconsciously looked over to the side, only to find two people standing behind the shelves of flower pots on the steps further away.
Both of them were people she knew very well. One was Olivia and the other was Lucia! When she saw Lucia, Jeanne felt like the blood was boiling in her body. Why… Why was Lucia here? Soon, she reacted and hurriedly looked at August.
“August, I’ll stay and take care of you. Please don’t drive me away.. With that, she stretched out her hands, grabbed the corner of August’s clothes, and refused to let it go.
August frowned and said in a colder voice, “I’ll tell you what happened to me when I have time later, but it’s not the right time now. I’m still in danger, so I can’t keep you around. Just go back.”
Jeanne shook her head repeatedly. “No, I’m not going back! I just want to see you anytime and anywhere. I’m not afraid of danger!”
As she spoke, tears came out of her eyes again.. Olivia couldn’t stand it anymore. She was about to go over and reprimand Jeanne.
Seeing that, Lucia reached out and gently took her arm, saying softly, “Grandma, this is August’s business. He will handle it. Let’s go back inside.”
Olivia moved her lips as if she wanted to say something. Looking at Lucia, she hesitated for a moment before she finally took Lucia’s hand and turned to walk in without saying anything. Glancing at Lucia from behind, Jeanne suddenly cried even harder.
“Why can’t I stay with you when Lucia can, August?” August frowned slightly. “She is different.” “Why?” Jeanne shouted unhappily. “She’s your ex–wife and so am I. Why can she stay while I can’t?” The man’s eyes were so August was rendered speechless by her words.
He knitted his brows and stared
at Jeanne, without saying a word.
intimidating that Jeanne felt a chill and gasped when he stared at her. She slowly
calmed down and seemed to realize that crying and screaming couldn’t get her
what she wanted, so she had to change her tone. “August, I’m so worried about
you that it feels like a dream when I look at you now. I’m afraid that when I wake
up, you’ll be gone…”
With that, she wiped her tears and said in a softer voice with grievances, “I don’t
have to stick around you, but at least let me stay with you for a little longer. I
would be happy even if I could spend another hour or have lunch with you…”
She said that emotionally in a soft tone with red eyes. It seemed that she had
long grasped how to get a man’s sympathy. Every action and look of hers had its
own intent.
If she had gone on being a nuisance, August would have driven her away.
However, now she was being reasonable without asking for too much. August
moved his lips, not knowing how to refuse her.
Jeanne took a deep breath. “August, for the sake of our growing up together, let
me stay with you for a while longer. I’ll leave after having lunch with you, really!”
Hearing that, August remained silent for a moment and finally relented, saying in
a softer tone, “I’ll tell Burton to take you back after lunch.”
Jeanne nodded obediently. “Okay, I’ll do whatever you want.”
After that, she went inside with August and Burton. Olivia and Lucia were sitting
on the couch. Seeing that, they had different looks on their faces.
Olivia was surprised at first. Then, she couldn’t help but frown and give August a
few angry glances, while Lucia was much calmer as if she had expected that
August would let Jeanne in.
She continued to chat with Olivia about health and wellness as if nothing had
happened, paying no attention to Jeanne and August over there.
Meanwhile, August was annoyed by Jeanne. He just gave brief answers to her
countless questions and then excused himself, saying he had some work to do in
the study.
It happened that it was time for Olivia to take her medicine, so she went back to
her room with the maid. All of a sudden, Lucia and Jeanne were left alone in the
large living room.
They were on opposite ends of the room. Lucia was sitting near the window,
where she flipped through a magazine, without any distractions.
Jeanne was sipping her tea while she kept glancing at Lucia.
Finally, she couldn’t stand it anymore, so she got up and came over to Lucia.
Lucia was reading the magazine. When she heard the footsteps, she didn’t move
or raise her head.
Jeanne sat down on the single sofa diagonally opposite Lucia and snorted.
“Lucia, I underestimated you!”
Lucia didn’t say anything.
Jeanne coldly snorted and continued, “Last time you had me knocked out and
ran away by yourself. I didn’t expect you to be so ruthless!”
Hearing this, Lucia finally reacted. She stopped flipping the pages and raised her
eyes to look at Jeanne, with a cold face. “You still have the nerve to talk about
it?”
That time behind the hospital rockery, she would have been strangled to death by
Jeanne if Zane hadn’t come to her rescue.
She continued in a cold voice, “You put the blame for August’s disappearance on
me. From the very beginning, you had ill intentions and tried to use it as a pretext
for attacking me, right?”
“And speaking of last time, I suddenly remember that I haven’t told Grandma
about your informer around her. Now that you’re here, we might as well talk
about it face–to–face. Don’t you think so?”
When Jeanne heard that, her face suddenly went pale.
Lucia saw Jeanne’s expression and turned up the corners of her mouth slightly.
She closed the magazine in her hands, put it on the table next to her, and stood
up.
Jeanne was startled and a trace of panic flashed across her face. She hurriedly
got up as well, reached out, and took Lucia’s wrist, asking warily, “What are you
doing?”
Was Lucia going to tell August and Olivia about her secretly planted informer at
this time?
No, no way!
